Build deep in the trenches and in the secondary because injuries will ruin your season. The 49ers and Seahawks are deep in those areas, and the Bucs are paper thin.
How were those teams built?
Through the trenches! Both teams have invested highly into offensive lines and defensive lines. The 49ers haveAnthony Davis (first round pick)Mike Iupati(first round pick)Joe Staley(first round pick)Alex BooneJon GoodwinSeahawks:James Carpenter(first round pick)Max Unger(second round pick)Russell Okung(first round pick)Bucs haven't used a pick on offensive lineman, well, high pick since Zuttah in 2008. If you look at the Pats and Broncos they've also spent high picks on OLine too.
Agree with this. They got lucky to get Okung back a couple weeks ago, after he was injured most of the season. Both the Niners and Seahawks are well balanced IMO.
Didn't think the Seahawks had a great OL but I could be wrong I don't really follow them.
didn't most of the year with Okung out.Reality is that for all the usual "analysis" above the simple fact is the neither SEA nor SF are really good at running the ball - they are like most run teams really able to hand off a lot. Gore and Lynch average a sterling 4.1 and 4.2 ypc respectively which isn't a great figure obviously. Neither are in the top 20 of running backs. By contrast Wilson and Kaepernick are both guys with better than 91 QBR's and are top 10 QB's.
There is a pretty big "chicken and egg" aspect of your argument that you seem oblivious to. Teams play the run against those guys because they are very good. Their average may not be spectacular, but their impact is greater than pure statistics.

Yeah, seriously that is what you will go with? Teams play the pass vs NO and DEN and can't seem to stop it. Charles gets 5.0 ypc and teams SURELY play him to run. AP went for what 2000 yards and there was no other possible threat on that team last year. Plus, teams don't "play the run" the way you seem to think. Teams play to stop the run on downs they expect teams to run. They play the run vs the worst running team just like they do the best. That is why the per play measures not the aggregate totals matter so much. Plus, 4.2 and 41. aren't just a little bit off being really good, they are way off being really good - well as way off as the very minimal differences in the run game seem to create.

The 49ers didn't have a winning record the first six years of Gore's career and the team that drafted Lynch dumped him for peanuts because he wasn't doing anything for them. Both players are examples of running backs needing to be on otherwise complete teams to matter.
So ..... Build a great defense and then draft an NC State QB ?Check on the NC State QB . :P
Both SF and Sea can score points! That is something we did not do last year: and their QB's are both leaders! We don't know yet of Glennon can do that but don't be mistaken, the 49ers can score and so can Sea if need be. Those two teams are more than mighty defenses!!!!

The Niners didn't look that great early on, but when they got Crabtree back, they looked like a totally different offense.
Don't think Wilson and Kaepernick are top 10 QBs, which gives credence to the notion we can win with Glennon. The negative is that they both makes plays with their legs. Positive is that Glennon is a better pure passer than both of them. People will lose their minds reading that but fact is they're on stacked, QB friendly teams which gives the impression they're better than they are. We might have the talent in the secondary to match Seattle, although they have an elite FS and we have two SS (Dominik logic). Drafting Jake Matthews is a big step in matching them on offense.

I agree with this completely and have stated similar in other threads. You won't find many others that agree with you around here though. Most want one of those shiny running QBs that rely way too much on their legs (and have since peewee football) and really aren't that great of a QB if you get contain. As to the OP games are won and lost in the trenches. That has never and will never change. Build the lines and we will win.
So hire a college football coach that had success in the NCAA but a limited NFL career? Cause that worked so well the last time...;) But in all honesty, I can see where you're coming from. I have often looked at the Seahawks and often considered that if it were possible for them, surely it is just as likely for us to reach that caliber, if not more likely, as in some ways we are more talented, just raw and immature.

If you judge by QBR, Wilson was #7 and Kap #10 in the league for the 2013 season.

Both those teams mentioned in the NFC got significantly better when the two quarterbacks in question took over early in their pro careers. Anyone who watches either of those teams play a couple times sees both quarterbacks making game changing positive plays. San Fransisco has a very good line and has invested 3 relatively high picks on those players. Seattle's line is not very good. Maybe top half, but that is generous. Certainly not top 10. They were in the bottom 3rd in the league in both sacks and qb hits allowed. With Russel Fucking Wilson at qb.
Lynch and Gore are great RB's. The fact that one was drafted in the 3rd and 1 was traded for a 4th round pick should not be an indictment on them. Bucs have a guy in Martin who could be that type of back.

hit the nail on the head, buddy
