Bucs are paying Gage, Nelson and Mayfield through 2027. Cap geniuses!!!!!
If that’s true, at least they’re actually on the team and contributing for multiple years (Gage, Nelson) and have potential (Mayfield).
Given the dire cal situation, honestly, Licht is making magic happen so far.
the contract stuff is not that interesting to me but just using Nelson as an example aren’t the back years voidable?
That’s the typical set up.
JC ‘s nonsense almost always fails to account for players restructuring (more money up front so “yes please”) and void years and all the other tools to manage an ever growing cap.
we won a Super Bowl. There’s a bill due. Somehow .. the Buccaneers will still be able to field a team
at least that is my guess

The bill was for 2022, 8-9. Not the Super Bowl.

LOL. Always departing from reality.
The bill is for the Brady era. NO WAY . . . zero, sip, zilch . .they don't do 2022 the way it played out. Its is PART and PARCEL

Bucs have made playoffs 3 years in a row and had a Super Bowl during that time frame. You do this 100% of the time all over again.
we now have one of the worst projected win totals per Vegas. Big deal. We sucked big time the decade prior to Brady
bite the bullet a year and hope for the best. at least mayfield and trask have potential and we aren’t going with like brisset or wentz

agreed
even take it a bit further by saying that part of the fun is watching the team develop so look forward to seeing how they redevelop the roster, how Bowles does, how Canales does etc.

Buc’s Mailbag answer by SR left more questions than answers on the cap…
”the Bucs do need to make some more moves to free up some salary cap space for a few more free agent signings and the team’s 2023 draft class, which will require around $7 million.
The three moves Tampa Bay could make to free up some cap room includes contract extensions for wide receiver Mike Evans and linebacker Devin White and a restructure for outside linebacker Shaq Barrett.”
”Tampa Bay would likely have to give Evans a raise. Right now, he is making an average of $16.5 million per season. The Bucs just re-signed Chris Godwin to a deal worth $20 million per season last year. That would saddle the Bucs with two receivers making $20 million per season, which would be a little rich.“
“the Bucs seem hesitant to mess with Shaq Barrett’s contract. Barrett’s cap value in 2023 is $21,252,941, which is a lot for an aging pass rusher who turns 31 in November and is coming off a torn Achilles. He is under contract through 2024 and has two voidable years after that. The Bucs don’t want to push any more money into future years considering his age and the chance he may not be able to return to form.”
”The Bucs might want to hold off on extending the contract of White as he wants to be the league’s highest-paid linebacker. That means making over $20 million per season. White is set to play in his fifth-year option at $11.706 million. While the Bucs could lower his cap value for 2023 to save some money, are they ready to double his salary? I’m not sure.”
Per Greg Auman, Evans agreed to a restructure that is currently not official. Overthecap.com is estimating the Buccaneers did a maximum conversion and added two void years to the contract, creating $8.2 million in cap room. When the contract is official and can confirm the numbers will update accordingly.
Agreed but last year was very reactionary because Brady flip flopped and then dealt with the divorce etc.
I don't think Licht had a choice. Brady gave him another year so he went with it and sold the farm to do it...
We'd be pissed if he didn't make a run at it... ended up being a shitty situation.
If 3 things happened differently I think we could have easily been in the nfc CG.
Marpet doesn't retire
Jensen doesn't get hurt in non-contact drills
Lefty doesn't demand too much with the Jags and becomes head coach
If those 3 things don't happen I think we win 12 games easy.
The regression of the line was too big to overcome

yeah gronk not playing and my 72 year old Mothers uncanny ability to call out the offensive plays prior to them occurring were two other reasons we sucked

anyone suggesting we shouldnt have mortgage future cap years for a run after going 13-4 the year before is just being a debatable dan.
what you can debate is how we went about it....meaning was signing guys like Gage, Mason, Hicks, Julio the right moves? JPP and Suh were key leader roles albeit lost a step but having them in the fold might have given the defense a boost and cheaper than Hicks.
and what was Gronk's problem? we thought the whole time he just didnt want to practice and the jerkoff retires in August? that screwed us big time.
ultimately Brady took a step back, the play calling was brutal, we were down 3 of 5 starters on the offensive line, and apparently Arians did mean something on game day. Many of us lazyly could have said that Bowles and Leftwich called the shots and Arians was just a figure head....well the 2022 season only cemented Arians importance of the Brady years.

right.
the Bucs made an unexpected last ditch attempt under less than ideal circumstance with retirements, injuries, divided coaching staff and even success hangover.
Arians may be a great coach but he’s also a bull spitter
