He's a 350lbs man with a bad foot. I'm not gonna hold my breath.
How? We have only paid him just a hair under $18 million and his guaranteed amount is $25 million. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/carl-nicks/
2012 Base Salary- $6.5M2012 Roster Bonus- $6M2012 Re-structure Bonus- $11.8M2013 Base Salary- $0.7M
I didnt see that re-structure bonus part, my bad. Theres a lot more to this once I started digging in. But here is a good explanation of our options...looks like he will be around.Keep$9,357,000 against 2014 capCut$13,071,000 against 2014 capCut, June 1 Designation$8,357,000 against 2014 cap AND$4,714,000 against 2015 capCut, no injury guarantee$9,471,000 against 2014 cap ANDWill have $2,400,000 added to 2015 cap ORWill have $3,600,000 taken away from 2015 capCut, no injury guarantee, June 1 Designation$4,757,000 against 2014 cap AND$4,714,000 against 2015 cap ANDWill have $2,400,000 added to 2015 cap ORWill have $3,600,000 taken away from 2015 cap
It's the best news we could have hoped for this point. Hopefully he can play and be productive. If healthy we have the best OG in football. I'd say by this news that he's rehabilitating at the team facility that he is probably MRSA free. Good news.
Am I the only one excited about the Bucs drafting O-line again? Man it's a good day to not have a bunch of undrafted players plugged in.
Nicks said this last season also ...dude is a straight up liar.
I dont want to get my hopes up, but Im crossing my fingers. Something has to go right with the Bucs organization. Maybe it started with Lovie and its all gonna change now.
I posted awhile back (when he was signed) that either he, or vj would do this kind of crap. It's like he's doing this crap for the saints, and it becomes telling when the bucs are paying him millions and the saints don't want him.....but yet he won't tell tampa staffs about their tendencies, staff, or system.Revis came right out and SAID he would, so what's nicks problem? Obviously he's not helping vs the saints on the sideline.

See this is the kind of shit why people hate lawyers. Fuck it's a salary cap and they make congressional legislation look streamlined and well focused.

Jc wrong again? No way!!! Its been reported several times that the bucs take a significant cap hit in 2014 if Nicks plays or not. After that it becomes minimal. So either hope he returns healthy or the bucs have a lot of cap tied up in a guy who may not ever see the field again. Nicks sure isn't going to turn down the money or retire and why would anyone? That's the contract he and the bucs signed, why would he not take the money?

A. The post you're quoting is me being right. B. I've always said the Bucs take a $7M cap hit if they release him but it still saves $2.4M off the cap and $7M in cash. My guess is that you do not understand cash vs cap. C. As far as the injury guarantee, I do not know if this injury qualifies. If the Bucs release him,he signs with someone else and starts practicing then I don't think the Bucs are on the hook anymore. But I do know if he practices with the Bucs and gets re-injured then the Bucs owe him atleast another $7M.

He wasn't productive before he got messed up for us. Oddly our best running days have all come without him on the field. You'd think a guy making that kind of stratch would at least effect the offensive output of your team. He hasn't. Dear god I hate Dom for not leaving us with an out on that contract.
Wow, really good news. I was thinking he wasn't ever gonna play another game as a Buc, or in the NFL for that matter.
this is great news don't know what all the hate is for this guy. He caught a bad break and it happens so now lets move on and get him back at %100 next year. JDub look at his tape his a top OL when healthy stop hating on this guy bro.

yep. there it is right there. no reason to get excited about this at all at this point. talk to me in July and August. in sports they ALWAYS say "the surgery went well" or the "rehab is ahead of schedule" or "the new injury is minor and not the same foot/ankle/knee as prior injury." They NEVER come out with a press release "the surgery went poorly" or "rehab is behind schedule" or "so and so may not play this year." You only hear about that negative stuff months later like Mike Williams lack of rehab effort we are just hearing about now. So until we see Nick participating in offseason activities and TC this is just fluff.
All of his guaranteed money has been paid. Not cap wise, but cash wise. The Bucs do not have to write Nicks another check, unless he gets re-injured, then they have to pay him his $7M base salary.
The injury guarantee can be written many ways. In general, I'm not sure why he'd have to get reinjured. If he can't play next season because of his current problem, it may very well trigger the injury guarantee. Injury guarantee may also be insured in which case the Bucs could recover cap room in the future but would lose the amount of the guarantee for 2014. I think the injury guarantee is $6mil. Does the injury have to be career ending or some other qualifier? Who knows.
