Nicks said this last season also ...dude is a straight up liar.

I don't know if you're just trolling or have a bad memory. He said all that BEFORE he contracted a staph infection and was fighting for his life. Certainly you don't think he planned on that happening.

It's the best news we could have hoped for this point. Hopefully he can play and be productive. If healthy we have the best OG in football. I'd say by this news that he's rehabilitating at the team facility that he is probably MRSA free. Good news.

He wasn't productive before he got messed up for us. Oddly our best running days have all come without him on the field. You'd think a guy making that kind of stratch would at least effect the offensive output of your team. He hasn't. Dear god I hate Dom for not leaving us with an out on that contract.

He was productive. I don't know what you were seeing out there. Yes Martins big rush day came after he went on I.R. but thats more a credit to the other guys stepping up and not him going down. Look at the games against Minnesota and New Orleans and KC as well. He owned their interior guys in those games. Especially in Minnesota.  And did all of this on an injured toe.

All of his guaranteed money has been paid. Not cap wise, but cash wise. The Bucs do not have to write Nicks another check, unless he gets re-injured, then they have to pay him his $7M base salary.

The injury guarantee can be written many ways. In general, I'm not sure why he'd have to get reinjured. If he can't play next season because of his current problem, it may very well trigger the injury guarantee. Injury guarantee may also be insured in which case the Bucs could recover cap room in the future but would lose the amount of the guarantee for 2014. I think the injury guarantee is $6mil. Does the injury have to be career ending or some other qualifier? Who knows.

When I say re-injured I'm not talking about the injury guarantee, I'm talking about his 2014 base salary kicking in. If he re-injures severely the Bucs would have to pay him his 2014 base salary ($7M).

All this Nicks hate. Reminds of when everyone wanted to write off McCoy. Funny how that one worked out. Don't know much about Nicks' work ethic, passion for football, etc. Pretty sure no one on this board does. So that all boils down to speculation. What I do know is that we are better with him healthy, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Also, you have a ton of dead money if he is cut. Keep the guy and see what he can do heading into mini-camp.

i couldn't agree more man. i too remember when most here were calling GMAC a bust cuz he wasn't putting up stats like SUH. once Nicks gets back to a pro bowl level most here will jump on that bandwagon as usual.

I thought it was a foregone conclusion that he was done based on reports hitting the press towards end of the season but who knows...If he returns to say, 90% of his former self, would that be enough to keep him aboard or would you cut the guy anyway to pay his replacement? I agree that 350lbs on a bad wheel is a difficult thing to overcome so we'll see how much progress can be made in the next few months but hopefully the new brass is planning for the different possible scenarios and not simply "RedBoarding" themselves into a corner...

Wow, really good news. I was thinking he wasn't ever gonna play another game as a Buc, or in the NFL for that matter.

Agreed. I hope he comes back at full health.

This is a tough call situation.  I am assuming the staff infection will be a non issue by training camp.  His foot is what its all about.  How healthy can his foot get?  It was my understanding it would never fully heal, but can it heal enough for him to play effectively?  Will favoring it cause him to hurt something else?  Will it be a situation where he has to take games off regularly?  All that weighed against the fact that if he is healthy he is a beast and one of the best oline guys in the league.I would not want to be the guy that makes the decision.

I think he's probably done. Words like,• Never fully heal.• 300lbs.• Offensive lineman.• mrsa..all make me feel like he's done.IF he comes back fully, and lasts, he should get comeback player of the year. However, I sadly feel that there almost HAS to be a reoccurring situation between the pain, swelling, mrsa, or whatever variable my mind couldn't create. Point is, there is a lot going against him going into this season (if he's really not just milking it).God bless him if everything goes well though.

He's done, stick a fork in him.  All else is hype.  Even if he plays, it won't be for long.

It's good that he is rehabbing. The most important thing is that he stays in decent shape. Nobody knows if the toe will ever be normal again but at least if he is in shape he will be able to play if it does get better.

He's hoping to screw us out of at least one more years pay. All he has to do is be on the roster week 1 .I think that's his goal. Then you will see him go to IR again.
