He got a $8 million signing bonus which has obviously already been paid, but is also due a $5.7 million roster bonus on 3/31, so I suppose they could be trying to prevent having to pay that, but it generally seems pretty unlikely they'd cut a good, young player less than a year after extending him when he hasn't even gotten into trouble or anything.

Wasn't he listed as the number 1 overall prospect for a bit before his pre-SEC Title Game DUI? I know he's shown flashes of dominance next to Atkins. Next to McCoy he'd be lethal.

I generally agree, but in the Bengals' specific case, they've got AJ Green going into the last year of his contract looking at a $8-10 million raise and Andy Dalton is also in his last year and only makes $1 million per season. You have to think he's aiming for Matt Schaub type money of $11-12 million per year. That's a lot of new money to have to carve out.

Yea, but after next season they can cut Leon Hall (save $7.8 mil), Andre Smith (save $5.8 mil), and Andrew Whitworth (save $5.2 mil). They have 14 FA's next year as well. I dont know their role players as well so not sure who is worth keeping around. Not really a team who looks like they have to make that kind of decision on Dunlap.
