http://www.620wdae.com/media/podcast-steve-duemig-podcast-steveduemig_01/chris-landry-with-tkras-122713-24127623/ Well worth the listen. Here's a tease: When Gregg Schiano said it was a laughingstock when he came here, could it be that he meant that it was viewed as a very undesirable place to work? Hmmmm
They should hire some of the football gurus here on the Red Board, then it's Super Bowl here we come ......
I bet a lot of people here could lead this franchise to 28+ wins over 5 years. I mean we're only taking about going 6-10 every year.
If it was Madden

I don't know if that is what he meant, but I think when you fire back to back coaches that have winning records and stood up to you/were not yes men then legit coaches may have reservations about accept the gig. Throw in "we're going to build through the draft" and the garbage that was here after 2011 and you have a less than an inviting opportunity
Every new head coach inherits problems. If there weren't problems, the old coach would still be there. Not many coaches retire on a high note. Schiano didn't inherit a worse situation than the norm. He had all his draft picks, spent more money in free agency than any other team in the NFL, and could potentially have five Pro Bowl players this season.
the difference is that the primary problem lays at the feet of the GM (and owner). The GM and owners were behind Freeman, Schiano was clearly not. Could buy Schiano a year even if he sucks as a coach . . . which brings us back to the GM (and owners)
I don't really buy into the whole Freeman was the entire problem premise. Just imagine this team without Freeman's hot streak last year. Whether you like him or not, Josh Freeman played at an elite level for a stretch and easily won this franchise 3-4 games last year. A little bit of math tells me that without the "problem child Freeman" last year would have been a 3-4 win season as well. Schiano should have thanked Freeman before the door hit him in the ass.
Dang, Landry crushed Dominik.

The problem with that, aside from the fact Josh did not play at an elite level, is that you assume the level of QB play would be worse than his play. There is no way to know exactly how things would have turned out had we tossed Josh aside before last year, or had we grabbed Palmer for this one. We still haven't had decent QB play or it's facsimile other than one brief stretch when VJax and Mike came down with seemingly every jumper thrown in their general direction. I still don't think this offense is ever going to be a good one -- it can get the job done if you have good play from a QB, but it's always going to have consistency issues, and it just pointlessly lives in the past. It's one of those things where, yeah, it can get the job done, but why the hell are you making it hard on yourself and ignoring all the rule changes that benefit offenses so massively these days?
Boid would be a better coach than schiano.Hell, any one of us could probably coach an nfl team to four wins a season.Pathetic.
Landri really hates Dominik....lol I'm supposed to believe that Schiano is the best football mind in TB? Also, I love how he completely disregards the win/loss record in his defense of keeping Schiano.
If Schiano is the best football in TB, then we are seriously, seriously screwed.

I'm undefeated. It's a great gig.
Other than the fact the team would be all white , we'd have been better off hiring Java. He'd have traded Freeman after 2010 and gotten usa king's ransom for a bum.
We are in trouble if Schiano is the best football man in the building. I see years of losing and last place finishes in our future. I'm so sick of the losing.
Well shouldn't the Head a Coach be the best football mind in any building? Problem is 31 other teams have smarter HCs.

java actually loved Russell Wilson.
Landry buried Mark Dominik in that segment.
