Every new head coach inherits problems. If there weren't problems, the old coach would still be there. Not many coaches retire on a high note. Schiano didn't inherit a worse situation than the norm. He had all his draft picks, spent more money in free agency than any other team in the NFL, and could potentially have five Pro Bowl players this season.
the difference is that the primary problem lays at the feet of the GM (and owner). The GM and owners were behind Freeman, Schiano was clearly not. Could buy Schiano a year even if he sucks as a coach . . . which brings us back to the GM (and owners)
I don't really buy into the whole Freeman was the entire problem premise. Just imagine this team without Freeman's hot streak last year. Whether you like him or not, Josh Freeman played at an elite level for a stretch and easily won this franchise 3-4 games last year. A little bit of math tells me that without the "problem child Freeman" last year would have been a 3-4 win season as well. Schiano should have thanked Freeman before the door hit him in the ass.
Like Frazier is now?
But, I was assured by this very Red Board that there would be great coaches lined up to coach all the talent on the Buc's roster... that ranks as 4th best in the division. At least according to this former scout.

Word which was leaked was along the lines that Frazier didn't want Freeman anyway. Where that fits into this discussion I'm not sure but the dynamics are interesting.

From the responses in this thread it would appear the truth hurts
Landry buried Mark Dominik in that segment.
Yeah he was trying so hard to be nice about it, but his dislike of Dom was obvious. That was brutal.Rose colored glasses aside he makes a good point about the coaching situation. Even if we move on from Schiano who would we bring in that has credibility? Lots to think about after listening to that.
Dummynik needs to be buried...

Great, so another season of an atrocious offense and excuses.
This interview is very similar to what Landry has said before about the organization. He also said (or pointedly implied) that Dominik was the primary person in the hiring of Schiano and Morris as coaches. That struck me as being directly counter to what most have said about the hiring of Schiano (though no one really knows) and especially of Morris, who was hired at the same time as Dominik and, thus, Dominik couldn't have hired him (especially since he was recovering from an appendectomy when he was hired). Landry is consistently very down on the Bucs' organization and their reputation in the league; he may be right, but his comments on the past two coaching hires strike me as being inaccurate.I do agree with him and Krasniqi, though, that overhauling the organization with a respected GM and/or team President would help to stabilize the team in a way that it hasn't been stable since McKay and Dungy. It seems the Glazers were aiming for that kind of stability when they hired Dominik and wanted to draft a franchise quarterback rather than keep careening after free agents the way that Gruden and Allen wanted to. A laudable goal, of course, but It doesn't seemed to have worked. They went with "up and comers" Dominik and Morris at that point; maybe they'll try more experienced hands now (or next year when the quarterbacks entering the draft look to be very good).
Dom has to go if we want to get a real coach at this point. Nobody worth a damn is going to come into the building and work for or with him. He's gotta be some kind of league joke at this point. The Glazer family b|tch who's primary talents seem to be drafting busts, overpaying mediocre players, and throwing everyone around him under the bus.

I get that impression as well. Lol. When Dom leaves and is replaced by new blood from outside building with experience, I'll feel like things have take a turn for the better. Until then............

Agreed.
When Landry said that Schiano is the best "football guy" in the building at One Buc, I wish Krasniqi had asked him about Scott Cohen, who came over in July from the Jets, and Eric Stokes. Landry's opinion on Dominik and Hickey was clear, but Cohen and Stokes are two guys who have had experience in the league and seem to be respected by other teams. Cohen interviewed for the Jets GM job, I believe, and the Bucs denied Stokes the opportunity to get a promotion to another team last year. Landry is always ripping on Dominik because he's supposedly not a "football guy," but he's not the only guy in the front office.
