Is it fair to evaluate our roster based on thier proformance under the previous coaching staff? And how accurate can those evaluations be? We all screamed about the schemes and play calling, so is it prudent to call for cuts before training camp? Can Bowers and Clayborn rush the passer when not stunting? Can Glennon run a traditional offense not predicated on WR option routes. I'm not against brining in compitition and depth or even expected starters, but the idea of cutting a player for failing to preform last year baffles me. I don't know what they were asked to do, and more importantly I didn't trust the schemes I did know about. I say you gotta wait it out through camp to see how they play under the new staff before we start cutting or trading as some have suggested.
I believe a lot of guys will look better and should get clean slates but some shouldn't.Clayborn yes because he produced regardless of the crap scheme. Bowers couldn't close an umbrella last year.I do want us to bring in some Mike Williams insurance tho.
It will be interesting to see how the staff approaches it. They need to evaluate everything. You have to approach each guy without preconceived notions, but that is hard to do. The scheme makes something's look good or bad but guys get plenty of opportunities to look like ballers or busts. I trust this staff to evaluate their roster the right way, then add/subtract players, and then win the damn Super Bowl.
They should review the film... and the slates should have plenty of marks that have nothing to do with coaching or schemes.
Everyone should get a clean slate, but there's some guys that we can't keep spending money on to evaluate any further. Guys like Koenen, Joseph and Nicks. Zuttah isn't making as much, but we know what kind of player he is. He should be a backup and not a starter.

There isn't a lot of great depth on this team right now so I would imagine that the turnover would be moderate at best.Lovie and Licht will bring in a few players in FA and will draft some new talent.IMO, there aren't any major must keep FA's this year. I expect to see some significant roster turnover next year. By then, there will be plenty of time for evaluation.
Penn has to go, playing as if his feet are glued to the field has nothing to do with scheme. I'd say Joseph too but his poor play will get Glennon killed less often than Penn's will, and we can't afford to get rid of everyone on the line especially with the unknown future of Nicks. It makes no sense to cut Bowers because I believe it would only save us around 500k.
