I'm imagining myself working at Office Depot. And they're paying my rent. And I get free food. And they give me someone to help cover for the work I don't really do. And hey look I'm treated like a king. Talent is throwing itself at me. And they're paying for my education, too! And now I'm a millionaire! And I've got endorsement contracts, and I'm on TV! This Office Depot gig is freakin' sweet!

I'd be mildly amused if you could actually generate hundreds of millions of dollars working at Office Depot. Unless you're a CEO.Wait, what do they get paid?Besides, in your cute attempt at "logic", can you provide where anyone is saying to pay college athletes millions of dollars? Or are you referring to your next job in your horribly uninformed, misleading statement?

Let's be honest here the players do get scholarships, get room and food. I think maybe they could give them some walking around money but nothing substantial. Which I'm sure they already do. I don't think they deserve more than that.

People who are against paying college players can never really justify it.Universities make money just from students paying tuition. That by itself is profitable. Add on the money they rake in from donations. Then add in the hundreds of millions of dollars that they get from sports. But the players get "free" things from the university. Imagine working at Office Depot and they pay you in Printers

Where is this money you keep talking about?  Only a few universities actually operate in the black.  Football pays for all the other sports.  Most schools LOSE money even after they get their TV share.  It's all public record.  We haven't even brought up Title freaking IX yet.Look it up...these athletic programs LOSE money after all the bills are paid.

Professor Vance Fried of Oklahoma State: “Federal Higher Education Policy and the Profitable Nonprofits” many colleges and universities are charging their undergraduates much more than their education costs. Schools like UNC and Harvard, he writes, “do not show profits on their books, but instead take their profits in the form of spending on some combination of research, graduate education, low-demand majors, low faculty teaching loads, excess compensation, and featherbedding.”The report, by the libertarian Cato Institute, estimates that the average private college makes $12,800 per undergraduateI guess they're non profitable in the same way that NBA teams are "hemorrhaging money" yet going up in value.

There are other ways to get to the NFL

No, there isn't. There are 3 currrent NFL players who didn't go to college.

Do you not realize you proved my point?

If you think less than .05% of players is enough for your "proof" than you have some living in the real world to do.

I live in the same world you do. Our disconnect is in the understanding the difference between possibility and probability. Nobody is stupid enough to think their chances are better by not going to college, but that's not my argument. Legally, the kids can play in the NFL without a college education. That's it, there's no 3 in 1000 or .05% - it doesn't matter, because it is NOT IMPOSSIBLE. But you know what their benefit is in going to college? A MUCH better opportunity at getting to the NFL. THAT is incentive. You don't have to have any experience to be the CEO at Office Depot. You don't. You just have to be elected by the board and/or by the stockholders. You don't have to be a banker without a Finance Degree or an MBA, but who the hell is going to WANT to hire you?If you seriously don't understand the difference then I might as well be talking to a wall. The players have INCENTIVE to go to college, as does the prospective Banker to get an MBA, and the CEO to pay his dues going up the ranks. That is their payment - the opportunity to achieve something in a more secure/common format (all while getting SO many benefits non-athletes don't get). Don't like it? Don't like getting paid in printers at Office Depot in hopes of one day being the CEO? Change careers. Office Depot didn't rig the game, and neither did the colleges. The NFL has these expectations of its players, i.e. to be somewhat educated, or wait out 4 years, go sue or go complain to them.

I'm sure a few do actually make money.  It is a small small %.  You're mistaken if you think they ALL make a profit.  Almost none of the athletic dept's do.  You'll freely acknowledge this, I'm sure.  Do you realize how miniscule athletic dollars are compared to research money and endowments???  You're living in fantasy land with Clowney and some others.  Take UF for example.  They donate money back to the school every year.  They are one of eight schools and that includes bowl and TV monies.  You see hundreds of millions of dollars.  Do you know how much it costs to field a golf team or a lacrosse team?  Football funds all the other sports men's and women's.  You want to cancel a bunch of sports providing scholarships actually used by their recipients so you can give some pocket cash to kids that already have it made????BUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!  It'll never happen.  A minor league will be created before this happens.  Dream on.

You STILL don't understand. That is what they charge. There are hundreds of other colleges, and there are hundreds of other careers one can pursue. Don't like the price tag? GO SOMEWHERE ELSE OR PURSUE ANOTHER CAREER. No one is forcing ANYONE to attend there. In addition, these are PRIVATE colleges, they will operate however they please so long as they can continue to collect enough tuition. They are no different from your local Wal Mart or ANY other privately owned establishment. This is why Public Universities tend to be cheaper because their goals are different.

Now we can bring up Title IX...you'll never get away with paying football players a stipend and no one else.  The lawsuit will be filed before anything is done.  If you're not familiar with Title IX then we really are talking to a wall.

I'm sure most college athletes would stay at their school if they paid. You wouldn't have guys sneaking and taking money from boosters and agents trying to make a dollar.
