Because one of the things Tom would've had to do is scramble/run, which he couldn't do. So many of those scoring drives just never happen. Some of those tight window throws never happen.
You're not wrong on the scrambling, but I don't think Brady would have had any issues on tight window throws.
The flip side of that argument is Brady wouldn't have to scramble as much as Mayfield because Brady plays the game faster in his head, meaning he would have the ball out to the open receivers we're seeing before scrambling was necessary.
Maybe. Though there were several times when the protection just broke down too fast, but somehow Baker escaped, then made a play either with his legs or arm. And that's the other thing: this offense is designed for the QB to run when necessary. With Tom, the offense, all the way down to the actual concepts, would have to look different, because he wasn't mobile.
And Tom himself has already said that Baker's ability to drive the ball on shot/intermediate routes is something he couldn't do.
Now, Brady's processing speed would've offset some issues, he would've been more even in his performances (most likely), but physically his inability to escape and lack of arm strength compared to Baker would probably force Coen to alter the offense at a fundamental level.

Exactly.
And, until his very last season, Tom had no issues rolling out or getting out of the pocket when necessary (again, in his 40’s).
But, he would most definitely have the ball out earlier and ZERO issues with tight window throws. He still had above average arm strength and elite pre-snap processing skills (arguably the best to ever do it).
The only obvious thing Coen would need to remove would be the designed QB runs (where Baker has excelled). But, the overall offensive philosophy and passing concepts; Brady would’ve eaten.
Regardless, Baker is playing the best football of his career right now. Hope we’re finally seeing some sustainable long-term consistency from him.

Not sure what the context was when/if he said this, but Brady's arm strength was never a problem - even in his 40's.

Agreed.
With Brady at the helm we might beat the Chargers. We might also LOSE. We do NOT go heavy running game in the 2nd half with Brady, that much is for SURE lol.
In the Chargers game the Bucs ran 67 offensive plays of which 39 were RUNNING. That's almost 60% running, 40 % passing
Brady Bucs were more like 35% running to 65% passing
He doesnt come here with a newby OC and no Arians (has was reportedly leaving for the Dolphins) but even if he did he's not going to run a 50/50 offense let alone 60/40 RUNNING
The 2024 Buccaneers are not running so much because they don't have Brady (ie they need to run), they are running so much because its a WINNING formula. Mayfield probably finishes the year with 40 passing TDs? Thats on top of $2000+ rushing yards?
AND THAT RUNNING DIFFERENCE IS CRITICAL. Brady's best statistical year hear was 2021. In that year we lose to the Rams eventually in a game that EXPOSED our ONE DIMENSIONAL OFFENSE. We had something like a 21% 3rd down conversion rate, ran at about a 3.6 ypc rate and didnt score a TD until the 3rd quarter, I think. We ran at leats 70 offensive plays and maybe ran 15 times? Thats 20% run to 80% pass.
Offensive lines and WRs matter when judging QBs. Sorry to break it to the Baker bros. It's all fun and games till he has one of these turnover runs in the playoffs
So Baker bad. Coen bad.
Sean Tucker elite.
Do I have it right?
Brady the first two years, yes.
His last year combined with Lefty play calling like shit. Brady was throwing balls away so fast simply to avoid contact. He was a shell of himself (which is still solid for most QBs).
Him being a statue the last year after Marpet and Jensen were gone was impossible to overcome

our 2021 offense was a thing of beauty but so is our 2024 offense. They are both incredible but also polar opposites.
I prefer the 2024 approach because it’s multiple. That’s the point emphasized by the Chargers game. We came out heavy pass (for this offense) and then switched gears to heavy run.

The 2021 offense was great because it had the GOAT QB, probably the GOAT TE, a HOF receiver in Evans and maybe the league's best slot receiver in Godwin and Antonio Brown at his best playing the 3rd receiver role
Compare that to Mayfield, Otton, a recovering Evans, no Godwin and rookie McMillan instead of AB . . . and we put up 500 yards and 40 points.
The difference is the RUN GAME and Coen's approach overall.
Yeah Brady had elite processing that never failed him - but he had some tough years and some knee injuries because it didn’t really matter how quickly he processed. Early this year while we were experimenting with Liam’s wide gap scheme - Mauch didn’t adjust well and was awful and Bredesen was being Bredesen, the Tristan going down, etc… Brady would likely have been a sitting duck. Baker’s scrambling ability saved us (as did the run game).Because one of the things Tom would've had to do is scramble/run, which he couldn't do. So many of those scoring drives just never happen. I think Brady’s comment was “Baker can rip those throws” after an intermediate strike. I don’t remember the exact quote, but Brady doesn’t give bouquets of praise on QB’s who don’t deserve it.

Yeah, it was something like that. He also graded Baker's play during a game, and his comments were very insightful. And positive. Laudatory, even.
Cant remember if Brady had just ripped Baker (maybe trying to be a little more fair with his in-game analysis, or if he was setting him up for the takedown, later…?Yeah Brady had elite processing that never failed him - but he had some tough years and some knee injuries because it didn’t really matter how quickly he processed. Sounded like Brady was treating Baker’s comments almost like a rapper’s beef. Both got some relevance & publicity - with the GOAT taking the last word but leaving the mic open.

Yeah, Brady had a reply for Baker's comments about how his teammates were 'a little uptight,' or words to that effect, when Brady was QB. I don't think Baker meant it as a criticism, more of an observation, but of course, because he's Baker, it got blown a little out of proportion. And Brady did an MJ, which I knew was probably coming. Guys at Brady's level, don't like being criticized about how they did things to win.

Another disaster of a game for Coen. Three times we were at the Cowboys 40/41, ahead of the sticks and he goes pass crazy and we don’t score.
I have no faith in him to actually manage a game. He did this bullshit vs Carolina and Oakland and got away with it. I hope he gets a HC job, anyone can score points with this OL.
