this truly sucks after he said he would stay
...but in the and he doesn't play, mike, baker and the other guys do ... hopefully we find someone who can draw and call plays well
still, it sucks!!
This is on Jason Licht & the Glazers - they didn’t negotiate with him until seeing that the Jags job (pre-Baalke firing), was the only one on the table - then they figured they could salt Coen away because Baalke complicated it.
If Bucs had pitched Liam Coen the head coaching job, would he have still taken Jax?
All I know is that the guy we pitched making the highest paid OC in the NFL is about to named HC of the Jag’s.
If you’re given credit as a rockstar GM, you kinda have to know the guy you’re trying to pitch. If wasn’t going to call the Jags in front of Licht & the Glazers, you don’t let the guy out of the building.
Todd Bowles was worth more than Kian Coen - to someone with the cash and the power to make the decision.
I agree that Liam Coen’s limited experience troubled me - but how do you feel now - heading into the offseason without the #2 OC & offensive production in franchise history, a defense that collapsed, needing a transfusion of talent & possibly scheme - while knowing the guy that carried your team now lives in Jacksonville?
I do not feel like we’re heading into the offseason/next season, stronger. In fact, I feel like the team just took a step backwards.
not sure whose fault it was in the end, but the whole thing also shows how good coen is. baalke was THE problem in jax, he overpaid average players, drafted bad and wasn't really cooperative, if at all. coen sent him away. I expect them coming big next year
big loss for us
Ben johnson got 13m so coen prob got around 7-8m x 5 so guaranteed 40m vs his 4.5 x3 here or w.e he woulda got here
35-40m vs 13.5m i dont blame him...but i do blame how he went about it.
Kinda shows a bit of character ghosting and not letting your friends know. You need strong character to lead a team like the jaguars cause you gotta rip out the culture and build a new one and set standards expectations. But we dont know the full story i could be too harsh, hope he does well in Jville

Most of you never heard of him 12 months ago. Now all of the sudden he's the most important piece to be a Super Bowl, while you all shit on the coach who held the Chiefs to 9 points in the Super Bowl.
Coen was a fraud and I was the only one who had the balls to say it. His situational play calling was terrible and cost the Bucs games and the playoffs.
Now get an OC who will be run heavy and lets lead the league in rushing.
while you all shit on the coach who held the Chiefs to 9 points in the Super Bowl.
You only had to go back four years for that reference? To a time when Bowles called a completely different defense? I bet that's a good thing.
And you're ignorantly ignoring the shortfalls as HC, not just DC.

Interesting
Cant blame the FO or owners. He interviewed for the job, they offered a big time raise and he agreed to it. He goes on radio silence for a day while he is secretly meeting with the Jags again and uses his sons illness as an excuse for his non-communication? No one would have held any contempt for him if he took the job, but the way he went about it was incredibly unprofessional. There is a right way and a wrong way to do business and he clearly handled as bad as possible.
Now just hope he doesn't poach any talent. Glazers should be matching/increasing any offer coaches/staff will be getting.
To call Coen a "fraud" is ridiculous. But overrated? Possibly. Coen didn't teach Mike Evans to catch or Baker Mayfield to throw. He didn't teach Tristan Wirfs to block. It took years to put together that O-line starting with Wirfs and then Goedeke, Mauch, and the Bredeson and Barton. Yes, the playbook was a huge upgrade over Canales, but I don't think Coen would have had as much success if he had the same O-line up the middle as Canales and if he didn't have Irving. Bredeson an upgrade over whoever, Barton an upgrade over Hainsey and Mauch 2024 an upgrade over Mauch 2023.
A new OC will come in and will have all the pieces in place, so I'm not going to be gloom and doom about this situation.

nobody’s fault
the only option the Bucs had was to fire Bowles and make Coen head coach.
How would the players on the team have taken that? Could have bitten Bucs in the ass from a karma/rep perspective
Coen IS the reason why the Bucs were in the playoffs in the first place. The reason why the rush attack produced a 1,000+ rusher for the first time in nearly a decade but yeah, lets discredit him.

Our organization is dysfunctional and it's not a secret. Brady himself told the Glazers personally how unhappy he was with how the franchise operates. The Glazer children need to sell the team, it's really that simple.
talk about a hot take!
arguably only to 97-02 run, this is the most successful the franchise has been

Generational LT paired with a RB with the highest missed tackle rate in the NFL.
while you all shit on the coach who held the Chiefs to 9 points in the Super Bowl.
Nobody is shitting on the DC who beat Mahomes and his 3 offensive lineman.
Just do us a favor and share Todd’s record as a HC against teams with winning records.
We’ll wait…

is that coen or the players?
both sure.
if forced to choose xs and os or jimmy’s and Joe’s? Give me the latter all day.
any oc we get will inherit a very talented well rounded offense. Especially if Godwin is back.
