A 39 year old first time OC was just offered a top dollar HC gig with input on the GM. Got the old GM fired. Asked to rescue the career of a $275 million QB
JC says that’s because he sucked as an OC
roflmao
Cant blame the FO or owners. He interviewed for the job, they offered a big time raise and he agreed to it. He goes on radio silence for a day while he is secretly meeting with the Jags again and uses his sons illness as an excuse for his non-communication? No one would have held any contempt for him if he took the job, but the way he went about it was incredibly unprofessional. There is a right way and a wrong way to do business and he clearly handled as bad as possible.
Now just hope he doesn't poach any talent. Glazers should be matching/increasing any offer coaches/staff will be getting.
great post
And guess who designed run plays to use his "generational LT" in space and RB? These aren't your conventional run on his side and block your guy type deal. Your understanding of scheme and nuance is lacking.Coen IS the reason why the Bucs were in the playoffs in the first place. The reason why the rush attack produced a 1,000+ rusher for the first time in nearly a decade but yeah, lets discredit him.
JC is ready to announce us super bowl champs now with this addition by subtraction.
Most of you never heard of him 12 months ago. Now all of the sudden he's the most important piece to be a Super Bowl, while you all shit on the coach who held the Chiefs to 9 points in the Super Bowl.
Coen was a fraud and I was the only one who had the balls to say it. His situational play calling was terrible and cost the Bucs games and the playoffs.
Now get an OC who will be run heavy and lets lead the league in rushing.
Generational LT paired with a RB with the highest missed tackle rate in the NFL.
the DC who beat Mahomes and his 3 offensive lineman
Injuries matter!
To a time when Bowles called a completely different defense
Interesting
There's not much interesting about it, as Bowles has called his defenses different since becoming HC three years ago. You're the dumbass that gave this diatribe about Todd "Cover Zero" Bowles last summer, because you're perpetually clueless:
Love it or hate it, Bowles plays the bend-but-don’t-break defense
^^^^. Lmao. Now Bowles is Dungy/Kiffin????
Too funny to pass up when it comes from Mr. Football Acumen.
Bowles is known (to a fault) for his PRESS MAN BLITZING SCHEME. Lmao. Funnier even was that Biggs you offered that whopper as a defense of the "top 7" defense of 2023. This was Bowles himself quoted in ESPN reporting post 2023 EXANS loss:
"There had been no pressure from their front four, and no blitzing from Bowles, who built his reputation as one of the most aggressive defensive playcallers in the league. While his Cover 0 call at the end of the Bucs' 30-27 NFC divisional loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the 2021 playoffs was heavily scrutinized, Bowles has made it clear throughout his career that he's not one to lay down with a game on the line.
He even acknowledged that it was uncharacteristic of him not to blitz on that final drive.
"There's a lot of thought, and usually that's the type of person I am," Bowles said. "But with the way we were playing, and some guys in certain situations, you didn't want to do it."
HE WOULD GO ON TO EXPAND SEVERAL TIMES ON THE "SOME GUYS IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS" . . . he felt he didnt have the players to handle his typical MAn. Even when this was the stats on the ATYPICAL "bend dont break"
"In zone coverage, they've surrendered 10 touchdowns on 207 dropbacks this year - more than any other team in the league. In man coverage, they've given up three touchdowns on 123 dropbacks - tied for the best mark in the league"
Bowles does NOT play the bend dont break defense, he is the Cover ZERO guy. LMAO. Last year he had a USELESS MLB, limited pass rush (the point of the OP) and liabilities at CB (after top 2) and Safety. This offseason they have brought back Whitehead and brought in CBs and safety. Clearly, Bowles wants to run HIS defense.
There are people who don't need everything explained to them, and then there's you.
BTT
Well, this news was about the last thing I expected to see this morning. I thought it was laughable that the Jags were still pursuing Coen after he had committed to the Bucs. Very disappointed.
I can't bring myself to wish Coen well in Jax after the way he handled this situation. I can only hope that he will reap what he has sown.

Lmao. You mean when he had Shaq and JPP and a young LVD and White .., you LOVE that guy … and David and Dean and SMB and …
Biggs, there is not a thing you post here that is honest. You’re JC, but with a bad attitude lol

In one of the early threads preseason someone mentioned that his resume looked like he was sort of a job hopper. I guess that was true.
totally agree with your take. I doubt anyone faults a person for taking a better opportunity for him and his family, but why not only go to the Bucs and tell them? There was some reporting that the new deal for Coen was contingent on him not going back. If that’s true he’s just not someone to trust and the Bucs and Buc fans have every reason to be angry.
SR’s reporting
“Coen briefly mentioned [to Bowles at nearly 6:00pm] that he might be interested in meeting with the Jaguars during that call – yet he already met with Khan in Jacksonville.”
if his new ANNOUNCED contract was contingent on no 2nd interview then he lied because he was trying to preserve the Bucs as a fallback.
that’s pretty bad
1.) Coen used us to get what he wanted. He handled this poorly and now he has to succeed or the NFL will likely see how he handled this and have reservations about future hires.
2.) Jax is half rebuilding and half win now so it's gonna be interesting to see what expectations will be. I think he will do will with Xs and Os but he's be smart to hire someone to manage the clock and analytics for him. After all, he learned from Bowles.
3.) We will be an attractive destination for a new OC but there's no replacing Coen. Period.
4.) Baker per usual has a new OC. What is that now, 8?
5.) Don't make excuses for Licht. He chose Bowles over Coen. He's well within is power to let Bowles go and hire Coen. He chose not to, presumably for continuity. I think it's an awful move.
6.) Our coaching staff is gutted and Coen might gut it more... And we're left with just Bowles. Will the offensive coaches follow Coen or stick with Bowles? That'll say a lot.

Carberry and Grizzard leaving would be bad.

My only problem is the reported "ghosting" as that's unprofessional. But with Baalke's firing, I don't have an issue with him revisiting the Jags. The situation changed and he had the right to reevaluate.
If the team didn't want to lose Coen, I'm sure he would have been fine staying in Tampa as HC. But the organization made their decision. Hopefully the next guy can put a top 4 offense on the field in 2025. I hear it's pretty easy, as the team recently acquired a generational LT.

Yup agreed... Also yeah it's so easy to field and amazing offense, just ask Lefty.
