Was a dumb decision by Coen to do this. If he sucks in Jacksonville which many have before he will have a very hard time getting another hc job maybe even another oc job. Backing out of a commitment like that isn't a good look. If he stayed I think he has a better situation than Jacksonville including tampa and he didn't stab someone in the back while doing it. Weird.
FACTS:
1. Coen was a great OC for us. We had top 5 offense in both passing and rushing
2. Baker had a career year
3. offensive line improved greatly - maybe Barton, Bredeson and Mauch improving deserve some credit.
4. our run game, led by Bucky improved greatly. A little credit to o line there
5. Coen, like any coach in the ranks, can only dream of becoming an NFL head coach. He was skeptical of the Jaguars GM
6. Coen used us as leverage, got the news that he was getting this deal and staying in Tampa; Jaguars then fire their GM
7. Only way Coen would have stayed is if we fired Bowles and hired him. There may have been some player resentment and backlash if this happened. Cant say for sure, but most likely.
Item 6 for some can be emotional. While i am disappointed he used us, you can't fault the guy for taking the opportunity. I think it's not one to set him up for success unless he can make Trevor Lawrence perform like Baker Mayfield. A tall task given the lack of talent on that team but we shall see.
and while some wanted item 7....this was a little different than the Lovie/Dirk situation in that that team was ass and losing games. This team is performing at franchise best, arguably not at good 1997 to 2002 run but right behind it with 2000 to 2024 run
both have a Super Bowl
2000 to 2024 - 5 seasons, 5 playoffs appearances - 4 division championships, 2 different head coaches, 2 different starting QBs, 1 playoff win sans the Superbowl year
1997 to 2002 - 6 seasons, 5 playoff appearances - 2 division championships, 2 different head coaches, 3 different starting QBS, 2 playoff wins sans the Superbowl Year.
According to Prisco it was about money and not Baalke, not sure I believe that, probably both.
According to Breer, Licht asked Coen what he needed to stay, Coen asked for a number. The Glazers agreed to the number then Coen didn't sign the contract, instead he asked for more money.
Better ways of going about it is all people are saying.

Do you have a link to back that one up? lol

Nah he'll be fine if his offenses continues to perform

yes no one should be angry about his new gig but the Bucs owners and front office and even his own agent have plenty of reason to be angry IF the reporting about his Bucs contract is correct.
reportedly the new contract had as a condition that he wound not take a second interview OR THE CONTRACT WAS VOID. His reported lying would be consistent with breaching that contract, but who knows?
if it really had the void clause he should’ve never agreed to but once he did he should have honored it or at least disclosed to the Bucs that he wanted to go to the 2nd interview. That’s where puts the risk on him AS IT SHOULD BE and keeps the Bucs from looking like clowns
Coen’s agent most likely represents other clients with the Bucs lol.
make for interesting meetings in the future

Breer confirms the existence of the condition and even some stuff from the Jags but yes the Bucs have a right to be very angry with Coen and his agent

the last part is not what Breer reports
Coen and his agent lied to the Bucs because they were breaching the new contract

yes I saw that and the video but thanks
jC has the last part off
Breer even reports that the Glazers suggested he take the first interview for the experience
so pretty easy to see why the Bucs would be furious
It’s going to get worse before kits gets better lol
Coen told Schefter the Bucs strong armed him lol
schefter notes that but adds this
”
I would just say this: In 20 years, this century, since the turn of the century — I don’t remember the last time I’ve heard one team this hot and bothered by a coach taking another deal.”
"Coen asked for time to think it over, then came back and asked for more money. The Buccaneers responded by saying that the offer was the offer, and they needed an answer by Monday. He later asked to have until Tuesday. Then, on Tuesday evening, he told the Bucs he’d have an answer Wednesday morning, with his second interview with the Jags looming."

We have every right to be pissed, but it's also a business.
I'm pissed at Coen for how he (allegedly) handled it.
I'm more so pissed at Licht for choosing Bowles over him when it's clear as fucking day the offense carried the defense.
Risk/reward - medium risk/high reward if we hire Coen and move on from Bowles as a head coach.
Medium risk/low reward if we fire Bowles and promote Coen. The risk being the locker room.
That risk could be mitigated by promoted Bowles to front office.
Look... Licht had a very rocky start with the team but he's been damn good for 5 years. So I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt despite some questionable moves in the draft and coaching circle.
But my gut tells me this will set us back 5 years and we will see a regression (albeit small) in the offense next year.
Continuity with Bowles isn't valuable to me but I guess it is to Licht.
Continuity on offense is far more valuable to me but I guess it isn't to Licht.
