I think we could also use a late-rounder on Aaron Colvin... had an ACL tear in Senior Bowl practice, before that he was a 2nd-3rd rounder...
Gilbert is such a stud really like him!!! Wish he could be a Buc
Crazier things have happened on draft day.

+1
Yeah like Colvin later as well. Whatever he is a year from now will likely be a LOT more than any 7th rounder will be at the same time.
I could get behind Gilbert being the pick. Not my first choice but hard to deny the talent.

Had not really thought about it but if we decide to not go QB and we've got a bunch of systemic non fits like Mack, Barr or Donald staring at us is Gilbert such a bad option. We need 3 CBs most of the time so that isn't a apart time player.

Completely agree.
Bucs coaching staff considers nickel a full time position, they have a coach dedicated as the nickel backs coach, and Lovie put a big emphasis on special teams value too. It makes too much sense in a weird way haha.
I was thinking the same thing - really depends on who gets to us, and how good they feel about the OLB to DE conversion.I could see Gilbert in the mix though.
Back to the general discussion of defensive backs, I caught TCU's Jason Verrett's highlight package and it was pretty impressive. He has great recovery speed.

I've been saying for months that taking the first CB off the board wouldn't be a bad idea.I've been a fan of Dennard's (very happy with his 40 today), but Gilbert is a very good prospect as well.
I never really thought about it with Revis and Banks being a 2nd rounder last year coupled with needs at DE and help on offense. I'll never forget being shocked at the Barron pick at 7. Not bringing it up to comment on the value or success of that pick, but not to pigeonhole certain types of players with our first pick.

Well, Cornerback is a premium position, whereas Safety is not. You can use a top 10 pick on a CB.Also, like Dal said, the 3rd CB plays a lot of snaps. Leonard Johnson played the tenth most snaps on defense last season.

I was so p!ssed when Barron's name was called instead of Keeks. LOL
Completely agree. And getting Leonard Johnson off the field is a dream of mine. Gilbert being a exceptional return man combined with Lovie emphasizing special teams makes this a very real possibility
