I never really thought about it with Revis and Banks being a 2nd rounder last year coupled with needs at DE and help on offense. I'll never forget being shocked at the Barron pick at 7. Not bringing it up to comment on the value or success of that pick, but not to pigeonhole certain types of players with our first pick.
I was so p!ssed when Barron's name was called instead of Keeks. LOL
Ya.. I didn't really know who I wanted (I liked Claiborne) but I was so disappointed they took a safety. I'll root for him and any buc but man that sucked
Also, Lovie and Licht didn't acquire Revis and Banks. It's not their jobs to continue doing whatever the guys before them who got fired were doing. It is in Lovie and Licht's best interest to use the #7 pick on a player who will be a stud for 8-10 years. I think it's pretty safe to say Revis and Banks aren't going to be studs for the next 8-10 years. If Gilbert is going to be a stud for 8-10 years and prospects at other positions aren't, pick Gilbert. End of story.
If the Bucs get Gilbert, my young cousin won't even want to see me during the holiday season!
I was thinking the same thing - really depends on who gets to us, and how good they feel about the OLB to DE conversion.I could see Gilbert in the mix though.
Exactly, where we sit we will likely have either a OLb to DE prospect and a QB. I can see us not being high on either option for a variety of reasons. Trading back is likely option 1 but if the are no takers then does the CB begin to be the best of the rest type of option.
probably easier to figure out what position we wouldnt take at 7

Same.
I'd take Gilbert before Watkins. I like Watkins and I think he's gonna be a great WR in the NFL.....but this draft is ridiculously full of good receivers. I think guys like Beckham, Cooks, Landry, Evans and others could end up having the better career. It happens all the time. The clear #1 WR is often not really the #1 WR, and even if he is the best....I think there are several other WRs in this draft that will have outstanding careers too. I'd rather take my chances in the 2nd or 3rd round on a WR.With Gilbert, you are getting a freak athlete, much like Patrick Peterson. He has elite size, strength, and speed for a corner, is proven in man coverage, has proven to be a ball hawk, and when you factor in what he is going to provide on special teams as a returner.....I just think he provides a better value overall.
I could be down with that.
They keep talking about adding speed in space.....I could see us going Gilbert/Cooks in round one and two. That would add a whole lot of speed in space on offense, defense, and special teams.
I already had Gilbert as my no.1 cb. That is an impressive combine he had.I would be okay with Gilbert in the 1st. He is a great cover corner and he has breakaway speed.

don't think cooks will make it to round two, but I'm very much warming up to Gilbert in the 1st and wr/te in the 2nd
CB wouldnt be my first pick, especially at 7...but the more I think about it I could get behind picking Dennard or Gilbert. That pick and Banks could spend another year under Revis and give us options on Revis come 2015 (just in case)
Good article about the combine, smokescreens, and behind the scenes stuff. http://thebiglead.com/2014/02/25/everything-good-at-the-nfl-combine-happens-after-2-a-m/
A good read - Thanks Jdub
