Okay, so this is that wonderful time of year when Bucs fans can relish in the hope of what could be. Every week holds a new rumor and visions of trading up bring a sense of euphoria. Unfortunately, most of that is washed out by the realities of business in the NFL. So to get the ball rolling (and help Joel Glazer) I offer my take on the Bucs 2014 offseason (with only minimal amounts of idiocracy). GM – Eric DeCosta (Assistant GM, Ravens) - The Glazers take a two pronged safety approach, bringing in a couple of manageable but experienced executives to cover all bases.Assistant GM – Russ Ball (VP Football Operations/Player Finance- Packers)HC - Darrell Bevel (OC Seahawks), Bevel has plenty of NFL experience and his youthful drive and passion resemble that of a young Jon Gruden. Despite not serving as an NFL HC previously, he has made his case and taken responsibility for major roster moves, play installation, game management and play adjustment to player attributes. Carroll himself attributes much of Seattle’s success to Bevel. Rather than going with a college HC or failed NFL HC, the Bucs select a well established up and comer with the ability to adapt, modify, identify and develop talent. Bevel is 100% responsible for scouting, drafting and developing Russell Wilson and his vision would go far to capitalize on the 2014 draft and a talented Bucs roster.Interviews: Gary Kubiak, Mike Zimmer, Brian Schottenheimer, Ken Whisenhunt, Greg Roman, Mike Nolan (deserve a second chance)DC – Lovie Smith, In the end, Lovie impresses, but not enough to land one of the 6 open HC positions, 5 now that O’Brian has signed with the Texans. Smith brings a great drive and extremely knowledgable presence to the Bucs, garnering respect from all levels before stepping foot in the door. His stuffy of the game and coaching experiences should play out well in developing a very aggressive Buccaneers D, bringing back the days of smash mouth (or hip in today’s NFL) football Bucs fans came to love from 1995-2003. The question is, can the Glazers tempt him into this position and away from potential HC positions in 2015.Interviews: Ken Norton Jr, Jim Leavitt, Mike Singletary, Rod Marinelli OC – Rob Chudzinski, jumping on the rash decision by Cleveland, The Bucs grab a former foe with offense creativity. Teams will question Chud after a one and done season as HC, and he will recognize the attention from turning a team like TB around in a year or two will open the door to another HC gig. In tandem with HC Bevel, Chud will give Vincent Jackson and the Buccanneers a real shot at its first legitimate offense. Interviews: Eric Mangini, Tom CableST – Dave Wannstedt (retained) - Why break what isn't broken?Bonus Coaching Hires: Jim Leavitt OL/Assistant DC, Derrick Brooks LB CoachNotable FA’s: DE Greg Hardy (Panthers), K Phil Dawson (49ers)NFL Draft: Assuming the top 4 QB’s are all selected prior to the #7 spot, elite talents at WR, OT, DE, DT & LB get pushed down. Rather than trading up or blowing the pick on a second-tier passer, the Bucs take a value stance in 2014 and build up the roster for its new coaching staff.1st – Jadeveon Clowney – DE South Carolina – Bridgewater, Bortles, Manziel & Hundley go early along with WR Watkins and OT Mathews, dropping a gem in our laps. Questions about Clowney’s character get him past Atlanta but the spirit of Warren Sapp compels Tampa to grab the best defensive talent in the draft. Looks like Glennon gets a second audition before the 2015 stable of QB’ come out. While no guarantee, holding off may prove beneficial to the Bucs if that class is as good as predicted.Alternate Option: Khalil Mack – OLB Buffalo2nd – Austin Seferian-Jenkins – TE Washington – With big man Ebron off the board, Tampa looks to shore up its passing game with a well rounded 6’6” target over the middle. SJ, although carrying around 270lbs, can move quickly for a big man and has deceptive route separation speed, creating mismatch opportunities. Ebron and Amaro are considered more polished pass catchers, but neither possess the blocking or read skill of SJ.Alternate Option: Cyril Richardson – OL BaylorThere you have it. Some excitement, some average moves. What would you do differently RB?
"The question is, can the Glazers tempt him into this position and away from potential HC positions in 2015"Not a chance until all the vacancies are already filled this year. Then if he says no, were kinda screwed.
DB would almost assure us of getting Johnny Football...and if that happens, the BUcs will be fun to watch, and a vastly improved W/L team.
So far from reality it isn't funny.
Bevel is 100% responsible for scouting, drafting and developing Russell Wilson and his vision would go far to capitalize on the 2014 draft and a talented Bucs roster.
That is one ballsy statement right there

That's actually not too far from the truth. Pete Carroll credited Bevel for pushing hard for Wilson. Wilson was his project the whole time, according to Carroll. What's really funny is this... "DC – Lovie Smith, In the end, Lovie impresses, but not enough to land one of the 6 open HC positions, 5 now that O’Brian has signed with the Texans."Lovie is not going to be a defensive coordinator. He is going to be head coach somewhere in 2014. If not here, then somewhere else.
Bevel would insist on trading up for Bridgewater. Not sure if I like that idea or not...

has DB made a statement about manziel? from my couch, i believe that DB probably enjoys wilson because he is a gym rat that shines on the field. manziel does shine on the field, but he's no gym rat. i also dont buy the notion that DB is some offensive and QB guru, but thats another thread.as for this thread, im not sure clowney falling to 7 is reality, but i would love it.

Beval played at Wisconsin just like Russell. Don't find it hard to believe he pounded in the table for the guy.
LMAO at thinking Lovie won't get a HC gig.
a plan i would like...hire lovie and let him bring marc ross, jeff tedford, leslie frazier, tony sparano and whomever else he is linked to. i havent really been impressed with our ST's so i couldnt care less if wannsted leaves.continue the house cleaning...trade dougie for a 2nd, vjax for a 2nd, goldson for a 3rd, joseph for a 4th, and penn for a 4th. id probably even trade nicks away, especially if he's gonna have a bad toe for the rest of his career.re-sign guys like casillas, watson, meredith, page, economos. sign some mid-level guys at WR and S.sign jared allen and alex mack to big money contracts. leslie frazier and jeff tedford help bringing these guys in.that should leave us with 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 7 - or something similar. plenty of picks to re-make our roster in lovie/ross' direction. have a draft something like - 1 - jake matthews2 - austin sefarian jenkins2 - gabe jackson/cyril richardson/david yankey?2 - trent murphy3 - WR - or if we feel nicks will be healthy use that 2nd OG pick as a WR.3 - use a couple of the 4's to grab a CB.fill the rest with OL, WR, DB type picks. trade our 7th for a reclamation project of jonathan martin.too many trades to be a "reality" plan but would get rid of a lot of dead weight/over the hills.
Doug Martin and VJax are "dead weight"?
I don't see anybody trading for Joseph, especially with his contract. Or Nicks or Goldson. Penn might have a little value. How much I don't know.
Doug Martin and VJax are "dead weight"?
doug martin is a RB, and most of those are a dime a dozen. vjax makes some special catches, but is aging, drops a lot of balls, and has lost most of his speed or cannot stay healthy. id go in a different direction, even though i like both guys
