Rod Marinelli - C - CowboysCowboys promoted DL coach Rod Marinelli to defensive coordinator.The move ends Monte Kiffin's disastrous one-year tenure as the Cowboys' coordinator. It's a clear upgrade, one that won't require an overhaul of Kiffin's "scheme." Marinelli espouses the same Tampa 2 principles as his former boss Kiffin. Marinelli served as Lovie Smith's defensive coordinator in Chicago from 2010-12. Marinelli isn't going to work any miracles with the bare cupboard GM Jerry Jones has left him on defense, but should resurrect the unit from the near all-time worst depths it plunged last season. Eight days after saying both Kiffin and OC Bill Callahan were safe, Jones has upgraded at both spots.

Jerry does all the drafting anyway, so Monte may have never got "his guys" Jerry said last week, he has done a damn fine job GM'ing the Cowgirls.

Exactly!I am proud to play in one of the best divisions in football, but damn the NFC Least is a mess right now, and would be a much easier path to the playoffs.I think the NFC South is probably the 2nd or 3rd best division right now.
Monte's defense has been awful for YEARS. I used to think he was a lock at one point for Canton but he has tarnished a great career by sticking around too long. USC was god awful and so were the Boys. Monte has LOST it. I wouldn't want him anywhere near a defense. Quite sad.

I know. He's an old school coach who can't adapt. Now when he had players who fit his schemes he was a genius but without those players and without the ability to adapt he is just an old coach who probably should have gotten out of coaching after the Superbowl. After they blew up his team.

Marinelli is not great at the game-planning aspects either . He's great at teaching and motivating , but he's always struggled in the higher coaching positions that require scheming.
So what was Monte demoted to ? DL coach ?
