"HC Bruce Arians says that a good comparison for Devin White at this early stage of his career would be Patrick Willis as far as it goes for ILBs."
:-)
Bruce Arians. The notorious defensive minded coach
Bruce just out there working on his troll game.
A better comparison is Nate Webster
Why nitwits still quote Arians is beyond me. He's a gasbag publicly.

the White pick is Licht ignoring Arians who was pounding the table for someone else …
:-)
NFL GM’s get their pick record even though a lot of it is just the circumstances. Not an excuse or defense, just reality
to that point, the Bucs are absolutely taking a QB when Winston/Mariota are up and absolutely taking Winston for business reasons, if no other.
Arians has his hands all over the White pick
It's amazing how similar the conundrums that wINsTon and White are. Both were very early round Bucs picks in their respective drafts. Both had some spectacular plays, and some absolutely bonehead plays. Both got to their 5th year rookie contracts with huge question marks about their future with the Bucs. Both were lauded by some Bucs fans, and skewered by other Bucs fans. The one glaring difference is that White won a Super Bowl. Ironically, wINsTon's replacement had much to do with that success. IMHO, White will play out his rookie contract and that will end his career with the Bucs, just like Lameis Jameis.
Remember when Winston wanted 30m+ per year? 🤣

Daggum it, Fire! Your post caused me to spew coffee out my nose. I had forgotten he wanted that much from the Bucs...

ha yes
just like White debating a trade.
kermits prediction for white is probably right.
only wildcard is the way Bowles talks about him. But, I guess Bowles might not be around
I have to agree. Even if he has a good season, how can you trust him to not revert back to his previous habits? Assume he does have a good season. Then the price only goes up, so you'd have to exceed $100 mil for five years mostly guaranteed. Then he's locked in. When you give a player the big money, then you have to be confident that they are professional enough to be proud of their craft and that they will want to play their best even with the money already in hand. Can you be confident of that with White when he hasn't been reliable in the past? I don't think so.White will play out his rookie contract and that will end his career with the Bucs, just like Lameis Jameis.
The Bucs could franchise tag him, but if you think he's unhappy now you're really going to see what unhappy looks like if that happens. A tag and trade? Well, you are gambling a lot for a little reward. Again, this is assuming he has a good year, you'd possibly be able to tag and trade him for maybe a 2nd Round pick, because that other team is going to have to provide him with that long term contract. And you already will get a 3rd round comp pick if he walks (end of 3rd). So you could win that gamble, or you could lose and nobody wants to pay him and you get a low pick or worse nothing at all.
The whole thing is not worth the gamble, so he's going to hit the market at the end of the season regardless of how he plays this year IMO. He's playing for a contract, but it won't be with the Bucs. That will put the Bucs in a bind at LB with David another year older and everybody projecting the Bucs to take a QB in Round 1.

this should mean we get his best play
White is a decent player but this will be his last year with Bucs
Once Bowles is fired in early 2024, the new regime will want to use that cap room for other areas
I also think this will be David’s last year as well. Just hope the new regime doesn’t get too crazy and keeps other long time Bucs
