How many rings does Lewis have again?
Just as many as Gruden, he was the DC in Baltimore when they won their 1st.
As a HC ? How many again?
no self respecting Buc fan would trade that Lombardi for anything but if that Gruden trade hadn't worked out it would have been a blunder for the ages. very risky and IMO stupid move by the Glazers but like I said, it worked out for them for 1 year.

Probably has more Emmy nominations too. I love what Gruden brought, but that was a very dangerous gamble considering we never sniffed another one and he has been out of football for awhile now.
Gruden was done in by McKay's cap handling situation mixed with the loss of draft picks. Put us in a position where we didn't have a chance to use the draft to replace the plyers we lost like Lynch, Jackson, Sapp, etc. The fact that Bruce Allen couldn't draft worth a lick didn't help but Gruden was a hell of a coach. He's a Brian Griese injury and a Monte Kiffin quit away from probably having a significantly better resume.

So the reason they never drafted a QB high was because Allen didnt want a young QB right? That's why he kept signing veterans huh?
Well Marvin Lewis is still coaching for the team that did hire him.
Yep...and they didnt give up any 1st round picks to get him.I am not upset that we got Gruden, but if he didnt come with a Lombardi Trophy I think we would all be looking at that ordeal as a monumental screw up.
I'm sure many coaching hires would be screw ups if you take away their Lombardi's. Geez. Some of the stuff that gets posted here.

name another coaching hire that cost the team two first and two seconds to make? It was a highly risky move on the Glazers part. They beat the odds and got lucky. That's all anyone is saying.

You missed the point entirely. It was a tremendous gamble that happened to work out for us and I wouldnt take it back at all. I am just saying that even if we get to that super bowl and lose (so just a one game difference) then the hindsight of the Gruden trade becomes just another Buc screw up in a long line of Buc screw ups. After his super bowl year, Gruden was 45-51 with 0 playoff wins.

Congratulations. 4 sentences and the worst post I've ever read on Pewter Report.

Go back and read your own posts. They're significantly worse. I happen to agree with the post. And I would add the refs doing a number on us in the 2005 Washington playoff game. Gruden won two division titles after the Super Bowl. No other Bucs coach has won more than two. Dungy won two playoff games here, beating a mediocre Detroit team and beating a so-so Washington team by one point at home. Daddy McKay won one playoff game. Gruden bashing is inane. He couldn't draft and he was unlucky that a lot of the best players they drafted got hurt. So he got fired. But he did a lot of good here.
Gruden wasn't a bad head coach. He actually got the most out of his players that played for him. His biggest downfall was that he was stubborn about younger players playing and didn't have an eye for talent. Gruden got career years out of Garcia, Galloway, Hillard, etc....His style of offense was definitely played out in the latter years and he'd almost have to recreate an offensive philosophy just to keep a float. Should've hired an OC to help him out some because mannnnnn that offense was so dreadful and boring to watch.
People love to talk about how awful the drafts were under Gruden (and they weren't good at all) but they neglect to mention they weren't any better in the 4 years before or the 3 years after. The last two years are the first times we seem to have really hit on anything since maybe '96. Yeah, we have been that bad.
They had a plan last time. Chip Kelly **CENSORED**ed them over at the last second and then they had to scramble while most good candidates were gone. From everything we've heard, Schiano was not close to the top choice.
I think that speaks volumes to the disarray this teams was in 2 years ago. Hopefully the perception of the top candidates is that the franchise is in better shape and that the Glazers are butting out

Very true. I was just talking to a friend and the drafts were so bad for so long it was hard to keep track of which GM/HC combo screwed up what
