I would take Carr over Brady for 2023.  I think it's academic, because Brady will retire.   But in the real world, Carr is the better QB for the Bucs in 2023 when comparing the two.  There won't be a lot of enthusiasm about any of the likely suspects for Bucs QB 2023, but the reality is we don't need a superstar QB.  We have a very good defensive team.  All we need is a serviceable offense to succeed in the NFC next year.  But we don't even have that.  We could shape a serviceable offense with Carr and a new OC.

Contract realities:  hey want to trade Carr, and if they can't they'll cut him (only $5.6 mil cap hit).  Then next year they'll have to come to grips with the same fact that five to ten other teams in the NFL have to deal with - their QB sucks.  But if you want to trade for Carr you won't have to give up the farm in draft picks, but you will have to pony up the money:  Base salary $33 mil for 2023, $42 mil for 2024 and $41 mil for 2025, but I don't think any of that is guaranteed money, so I think you could renegotiate a new contract.  Still it would be an expensive contract to add to the cap hit the Brady contract will have even if he's gone.

Do you realize Brady is counting $35 mil against the cap if he's gone?  He is a free agent.  That is just money pushed into 2023 from his previous contract.  If he signs a new contract for 2023 for say $25 mil, that means he's costing $60 mil.  I'm sure glad people on this board are not good at math, because they would be seriously depressed if they realized how screwed we are next year.

What does it all mean?  Kyle Trask.  That's what it means.

And push an even bigger cap money problem down the road.

Might as well get it over with and trade away players and try to reduce player contracts. Maybe the Bucs can offer LT Smith and another expensive player for a 5th round draft pick.

What will Licht do if Brady wanted to go another year?  I just don't even see that happening.  The enthusiasm for pushing off everything to make a run for a Superbowl has to be waning for Licht.  If you have another year like this year, then you have that dead money coming to roost the following year.... another year bites the dust.  Do you really believe that if you sign Brady to another year that our team is going to become a Superbowl contender?  If you do, fine sign Brady and push the money along, but if you don't, then you have to bite the bullet and deal with the money issues left over from the decisions of last offseason and start to have a plan for the future.

Great points.

If Byron stays on as OC (let’s face it, Todd’s getting another year) or BA doesn’t return to the sidelines with the final say in the offense like 2019-2021, then let’s move on from Brady.

You’ve got the most inept low-IQ offensive coordinator in the league. You have a HC who’s lost the locker room.

Have the GOAT finish his career with a real coaching staff.

If Sean returned to NOLA and snagged Tom, they are massive favorites to win the division.

If Tom landed in San Fran, they’d be odds on favorites to win the NFC.

We can then start the rebuild.

If Brady retires they also keep Bowles because the best counter balance you an offense led by a lesser QB is a strong defense
