Three games in and I'm already unhappy with what I see from him.
I'll start it off by saying I hope he lights it up tonight, and every week as long as he's with us.
But I see some glaring issues with him that, as a coach of some good football teams myself, are kind of alarming.
1- What preseason game was it, maybe the first or second? Where he was already complaining to Winston on the sidelines. My hope is Winston is level headed enough to tune out Desean's antics. My gut tells me a young QB like Jameis is at risk of forcing balls to Desean because of perceived pressure from the diva WR2.
2- Why does Desean have to wear number 1 during practice? Does he think he's so special that number 1 must be worn instead of his actual game number, like just about every other player in the league? Does this impact his play? Probably not... but it displays a pretty obvious "me first" attitude about the guy. Not the kind of person you want as a teammate in such a team oriented game.
3- Against the Vikings, he had a fantastic TD catch. Went up for the ball, battled the DB in the air, and came down with it. The following week, after a few misses by Jameis (he needs to improve, obviously), Desean had a similar ball thrown to him in the end zone. Instead of battling for the ball as he did the previous week, he just stuck a hand in there. Pretty much no effort to make the same exact play he made the week before.
4- Speaking of, check out the guy's IG- particularly after the Minn game, vs after the Giants game. What do you notice? Great shot of him lined up against the Minn DB, coupled with the (of course) "we lost but I scored!" caption. Who cares? You fucking lost and that's literally the only thing anyone cares about. But it was definitely important to let everyone know you got in the end zone, right? I see high school (i.e., immature, often selfish, make sure I get mines no matter what) athletes do this all the time. Fast forward to the Giants game. Stats weren't as good. (2 catches for 20 yards or something like that). What did he post? Before the sports media could even write a story about the game, A picture about "godfidence" and controlling what he can control. CLEARLY indicating he's frustrated he's "not getting mines", without much regard to team success (A huge gutsy come from behind win against the Giants). Once again, does this effect his play? No but it shows what the guy really cares about. Himself.
He's already told the media this week he's "frustrated" by his role. Get a grip- This offense has playmakers at literally every spot and you aren't priority number 1.
I am as big a Bucs fan as there is. I don't miss games. I don't miss plays. I support every guy on this team. But I'm calling it now. The "desean" experiment won't last very long. And boy do I hope I'm wrong.
With all that said, I think he can have a big game tonight against the Pats who are getting lit up on defense. The greatest coach of all time is known for taking away a team's first option (Evans) so he will probably get his shots tonight. If he doesn't, I expect some words.
Either way, I'll be back after the game to either eat crow or say I told you so.
TL- DR: Desean is selfish and is more interested in his line than the team's
