A brawl during a Bears scrimmage Monday crossed the line. Veteran tight end Martellus Bennett has been suspended and fined by the Bears for conduct detrimental to team one day after he slammed rookie Kyle Fuller to the ground.Fuller tried to strip the ball from Bennett and may have grabbed Bennett’s mask or collar, and Bennett was furious with the play. He got up, approached Fuller and threw him to the ground. Bennett defended his reaction after practice, channeling Allen Iverson. Via ESPN: “I play hard and go hard every single day. I’m probably one of the most violent people on the field. That’s just my style of play. I’m going to continue to play the same way I always play. That’s what I’m here for…. It’s practice. Practice is practice. I know I sound like Allen Iverson right now, but it’s practice. [Expletive] happens at practice. You learn from it. That’s why it’s practice.” When asked if he thought he would be fined, Bennett said he didn’t care. “I can afford it. I’m not sure what he’ll fine me for on that.” According to the NFL CBA, the punishment for “conduct detrimental to the team” is a maximum fine of an amount equal to one week’s salary and/or suspension without pay for a period not to exceed four weeks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqyWghBhDsU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XHmXsRn13Y
