Brady suggests as much after 3 game suspension for Texans LB

But isnt the suspension in part because of the forearm to the head?

Its at the yard to gain so I can see that is a problem right off the bat. They are basically racing to the spot?

“It’s two-fold, right?” Ryans contended on Monday, having had ample time to review the video and collect his thoughts.

“A lot of quarterbacks in this day and age, they try to take advantage of the rule, where they slide late and try to get an extra yard. You’re a defender, a lot of the onus is on the defender, whether it’s on the sideline or where it’s on the quarterback, you don’t know what a guy is thinking. You don’t know if a guy is staying up and he’s continuing to run, you don’t know and then you get a late slide and you hit the guy.”

Not a late slide imo. Aziz is a dirty player. Reminds me of Burfict-lite.

1-2 games suspension mostly because the forearm shiver and the end and his refusal to leave the field.

No, TL did not slide too late. Aziz had to take a low dive to hit him in the chest/neck area which would indicate he knew TL was sliding.

So at first glance when I saw the first replay on ESPN, I thought it was a seriously blatant dirty hit.  And I've seen this guy Shaair do some dirty shit, including taking a punch at Mahomes' head on a blitz as Mahomes was throwing the ball from the pocket.  So I'm definitely not a fan of this guy.

But then I wet back on YT and watched the replay a few more times.  And the first moment Shaair could know that TL was sliding was about 4 yds before the line-to-gain.  Advancing frame-by-frame from there, Shaair makes contact with TL about 15 frames later.  So, from the moment TL obviously goes into his slide, we're talking abot half a second.

I'm providing a link to the replay here.  I hopefully have it set up so that you can see the playback from the first moment TL shortens his stride as if he might slide, which would be the first moment Shaair might see that TL is giving himself up.  You be the judge about how much time he has to make a decision.

I don't think it's just the slide. He's diving head first low AND he gives a forearm shiver to finish it. Then he refuses to leave the field.

Yeah, the part that made me initially think he deserved to be suspended for multiple games is the forearm thing.

I'm just saying, there's not much time, and Shaair is still responsible for trying to defend the LtG.  Just because it's a QB he can't just give up the 1st down, right?  ANd TL was outside the pocket, on a designed run; he's a RB effectively.  A defensive player isn't under any special obligation to tackle a RB gently.

Given his previous record and fines, and what others pointed out above, 3 games is an appropriate suspension.

Even that won't be as long as TL since he will be out for 4 weeks on injured reserve.
