That still isn't a great D-Line. No speed rushers. No 10+ sack guys. I'd rather have Revis than Sheldon Richardson.

Are you crazy??! We'd have a better Dline than Seattle by a mile and they didnt have a 10+ sack guyCam Jordan, McCoy, Richardson, Bennett/Abraham.... 3 out of those 4 having a one on one on most downs would produce huge sacks numbers.

I think most of the board would say your the crazy one with this thread. Both Jordan and Bennett are LDEs. Abraham is on his last legs.

Umm on passing downs Bennett can play any spot on the dline.... Obviously Abraham is not on his last legs, last season he out performed any pass rusher we've had in a long time...and IF he was on his last legs we'd still have 3 other guys as a foundation, and we could have groomed someone behind Abraham. Thanks for playing.

I like Dominik as a person. At TC I really appreciated his effort with the fans. I respect the man to no end. This thread is not about beating the dead horse, but my observations from being a season ticket holder for the past 5 years. This is about getting it right and really learning from the past and following a legit model for winning. A beastly dline in Tampa is the key ingredient IMO, we cannot miss on the dline anymore... It's sad that New Orleans has a very good pass rush and we dont have crap besides McCoy.

Our dline could easily be thisCam Jordan, McCoy, Sheldon Richardson, Michael Bennett/John Abraham Instead we have an atrocious dline that McCoy has to share the LOS withInstead of Revis we could have signed Grimes, and traded for Sean Smith while saving $$ Our cb's are all below average other than 1 guy (revis)Instead of Carl Nicks could have easily gotten Ben Grubbbs for way lessWe'd have more cap space to sign center Alex Mack.Whats really depressing is the kind of dline we could already have instead of trying to patch it with guys like Allen who will not be cheap and has a short shelf life.

I agree Dom was a horrible GM.  But some of your criticism is a bit much.  While I agree the Revis trade was a HUGE mistake, I think that had more to do with Schiano -- pouring all those resources into a single CB is Stone Age football thinking and that fits Schiano more than Dom.  In hindsight Nicks was a mistake, but it's hard to throw too much blame around, he was considered the best guard in the league and the concept we had and were working with was build in the trenches.  So Nicks was less of the problem than Doms ineptness building the line prior -- he was pulled in to cover the fact Dom screwed up before.  Reworking his contract after the injury though I think added to his cap hit so that might have been a mistake (I forget the details there).  I don't like to play the "we should have drafted specific player in x round" game though.  I will say he sucked overall at drafting though, that was clear.  The biggest myth with his is that he was some kind of master capologist though.  He inherited a great cap situation and then didn't spend a lot of money, and what he did spend was wasted by overpaying poor talent.  He didn't have a lot of guys coming into that second contract either because we had drafted poorly before that.

Its very easy to 2nd guess someone in hindsight.  He did bad, but he did good as well.  We have some good pieces in place because of him.

I agree with everything you said.I think Shiano and Dominik ruined Nicks, last year they let him play while the toe was injured. Barber said his toe was the size of a golf ball....Pure madness to let him play, I don't care how tough he is. You don't sacrifice the future years of a premier player for any reason, I don't care how much you want to win. If his toe was the size of a golf ball you tell him to get 100% for next season, you do not let him keep playing!!

Schiano and Dom ruined Nicks? Are you serious? Look, when Dom signed Nicks to his contract Nicks was the best LG in football and had a been healthy while in NO. What happened to Nicks was pure bad luck and no one can be blamed for it.

Yes. They let him play while his toe was the size of a golf ball.... which caused a severe tear.

Was it not bad luck that Nicks's toe was injured in the first place? No one can be blamed for when Nicks first injured his toe.

Thats irrelevant to what I'm telling you for the third time. They let him play with a mangled toe which made it 100x worse. How hard is that to understand?

While I agree that MD was not a good GM, and I agree that building a nasty DLine is very intriguing to me, I don't think you can say Seattle or San Fran built that way. The Seahawks built there team from back to front, think about the strength of that team. Sherman, Browner, Thurmond, Thomas and Chancellor. I am not certain, but I don't think any of the starting DLine for the Seahawks was drafted by the team. The 49ners built through their linebackers. I know in that D the OLBs are the primary pass rushers, but they do not have world beaters on the DLine. The point is that it doesn't matter how you build, it is being able to evaluate talent and filling all the pieces with the right players. The biggest reason I think MD was a failure is his inability to bring in a QB. The jury is still out on Glennon, but all other moves he has made, both good and bad, seem rather insignificant without a franchise caliber signal caller. And the notion that we could have drafted player A in the 3rd round instead of player B is a bit silly to me. Yes, I would have loved to have Wilson at QB in the 3rd round, or Sherman in the 4th round. But did anyone really see them being the kind of performers they are, possibly, but I am speaking for myself when i say I didn't.Hindsight is 20-20, but as another poster said, MD is gone now and I am looking more towards the future. He left us in decent cap shape, with some very good pieces. Now lets hope that the new regime can use those pieces, and build up from that.

If cam Jordan had to stunt as often as clayborn, he would have put up pedestrian numbers as well.My opinion is that our need at de is not as dire as perceived. I think clayborn will surprise people next year.

Agreed on Clayborn.  He doesn't have to rehab a torn ACL this off-season and he is two year removed from it now and doesn't have to run so many bad stunts that don't play to his strengths.

I agree as well. Personally, I love his high motor and the fact he will have a coach that can utilize him. If we can bring in a LE that can anchor against the run and garnish some push in the pocket, I don't think DLine is as some think. Does anyone think someone like Justin Tuck is worth a look if the price is right?

Count me in as well.  I think our line is a good deal "better" than we've seen.  AC was held back by the scheme just as much as Geraldini was.  ANd I think Gholston has a lot of potential that Lovie can help him reach, he started flashing at the end there..  I think Bowers is another Dom Bust, but he will get another chance.  I'd still add in another rusher as you can never have too many of them though.
