And yes I personally think a lot of Mark Dominik. He is a terrific person, father and husband. I will admit that for everyone to read. But I do not think he did as bad a job as some on here do. Let's see how this foundation he left turns out. Will it turn into the late 90's team that Dungy continued to build that eventually won a Super Bowl. the legacy of a GM sometimes is like a presidents. When the leave office you can't always say how good or bad they did, but it doesn't take many years to figure it out.
So what you're saying is Mark Dominik is the Jimmy Carter of GMs.If Licht and Smith turn this around it will have nothing to do with Dominik.
Dominik left the Bucs in an average cap situation...nothing great about it.

Yup, b/c it will have nothing to do any of the good players Dom brought in. Unless your plan is to turn things around without David, McCoy, Banks, Revis, Barron, and Martin, then yea, will have nothing to do with Dom

Yeah, and when we head for cap trouble sooner rather than later we might not even have anything to show for it man. At least the last time we had cap trouble we had a Lombardi Trophy to show for it dawg.

Anyone care to share why we are in an "average cap situation" instead of just saying that? We are actually in pretty good cap shape right now outside of paying for 2 strong safeties.

I'm guessing he's basing that on the fact that our projected cap space of just over $12.5 million ranks as 16th most (couldn't be more average than dead center of the pack) and before anyone starts with the whole "we can just release this guy and that guy to create more room" stuff, almost every team team can do that unless they are like the Raiders with over $60 million to spend and very few players making even $1 million.

5 years into his regime we're 4-12, missing draft picks with bad contracts all over the place. We're sooooooooooooooooo lucky for having Dominik.

That would be a very poor way to evaluate our cap situation...our cap situation is pretty good when you look at the big picture. Currently our worst contract is probably Goldson's or Nicks' (his is determined by health). Almost every team has at least one bad contract if not more. Revis' contract (while pricey) has an easy eject button for when that becomes an issue down the road. McCoy is about to get paid, and rightfully so, but it will be a cap hit at or less than his 2014 cap hit. VJax makes a big number at just over $12 mil, but he is a #1 WR and thats about what they get...plus if we needed to ever cut him in '15 or '16, it doesnt hurt us much. Penn is slightly overpaid, but could be cut in 2015 at the cost of only $300k...which makes him likely to be renegotiate IF we want him back at all. David, Martin, and Barron are all cheap for the next couple years. Basically our cap is set up to where when we come to the point we need to keep our pending stars, we will be able to without a lot of problems from copious amounts of dead money on the books. Considering some of the young talent that we have and finally getting some NFL coaches...I have a lot of optimism about our future. Still needs us to make the right moves between now and then.

Well he did draft your man crush Freeman. I mean, you're the only one still holding the candle for that dumpster fire of a QB...Dom is your cupid.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, dom was a better gm than most give him credit for.

I agree with both that and that he needed to go. Looking at the list of GM's fired since he became one in 2009...not sure how many of them I would take over Dom, if there were any.
How pathetic is it that when Mark Cook tries to defend PR on claims of being biased for Dominick he makes a point to talk about how great Dominick is and he wasn't as bad as people made him out to be as GM. Even when he tries to say PR isn't biased for Dominick, the bias shows true. It didn't used to be like this. I'm disappointed in what PR has become. This is a perfect example, and that's why I infrequently come to the site when I used to be on here daily.

If only he was able to land Haynesworth and Sanchez like he wanted to.... the greatness that would have followed.
Doms record is his "legacy". It ain't pretty folks. And with zero playoff appearances, it gets uglier.
Well at least we got to enjoy the greatness of Michael Clayton a little longer.
