If you look beyond the stat line you would have seen Brees fit the ball into tight windows with precision passing, releasing the ball in 2 to 3 seconds often. If you watched Glennon you would have seen a QB who didn't get the ball out quickly. He wasn't even ready for some of the quick throws that he needed to make. The big difference between these two is that one passes the eye test and one doesn't.
But how much of that do we blame on the long developing routes?I mean, I'm not sold on glennon at all, but I clearly can see they're making it tougher on their qb than it should be.

AMEN!
Glennon is much closer to Byron Leftwhich than he is Brees or any other good QB.
One is an experienced veteran QB, playing for veteran coaches, with a solid OL and a great variety of weapons to utilize. The other is not.Explain how this comparison would work with Matt Ryan and the fowlgoons.Situations sometimes exist for reasons, not excuses.
Glennon didn't throw for nearly as many yards, but he didn't throw the picks either. The point is that those of you saying that Glennon sucks because he couldn't get it done in a very tough environment and situation are just being way over-presumptive.
The reason Drew Brees is Drew Brees is because he has the guts to try difficult throws in tough situations. Sometimes you're going to throw picks. If Drew Brees played scared and wouldn't throw a pass that might get intercepted, he wouldn't be Drew Brees, he'd be Mike Glennon.

OMG. I literally mean OMG like a teenage drama queen girl would say it.Mike Glennon leaves a lot of plays on the field, a lot. That being said he is still going to have a very very good statistical season compared against all other rookies all time. He won 4 games out of 12. Why? Because he's garbage? No because he's a rookie and rookies leave a ton of plays on the field and don't win much. Last year with RGIII, Luck and Wilson, people now expect all rookies to take their teams to the playoffs but it's extremely rare because rookies QBs just don't do very well. The good ones show flashes and make a lot of dumb mistakes. The reality is, if we draft another QB next year and he starts all year, he's very likely to not be able to match a lot of Glennon's numbers. It's never about the first year. It's about next year. Can he build on the flashes we saw? Can he take the next step where he starts pulling the trigger on open guys, can he stand in the pocket .5 seconds longer before getting uncomfortable. You guys act like morons around here. You think Drew Brees came out of the womb playing like he did? In fact, it wasn't until he got to New Orleans in his 6TH YEAR, that he really developed into the QB we all know today. Pull heads out of butts and get some perspective.60% completions3,200 yards6.24 yds/attempt17 TDs16 INTsThose are Bree's numbers for his 2ND YEAR!!!! He played one game as a rookie!!!! Yeah at one point he was a checkdown machine just like Glennon only he threw more picks!!! People can get better and it's not about this season. It's about coaching the kid if you believe in him or getting someone else if you dont.
First off, Brees didn't play in his first year, so those are the numbers for his first season playing as well. And secondly...context. In 2002, 60% was above average for a QB. Across the board, Brees's numbers are better adjusted for the time period than Glennon's are for now. So please, don't compare Glennon and Brees. This thread was dumb to begin with, and anyone even trying to justify it by making a comparison to them is dumb, plain and simple. As you said, it's about coaching the kid if you believe in him, and getting someone else if you don't. He doesn't have to be Brees....but at the sime time, I don't know how you're confident that he's ever going to be better than say, Andy Dalton.

Brees was a rookie in a different time for the league when the defense was actually allowed to play rather than be expected to just stand there watching as the offenses run up the score, he was also very New Orleans like those last 2 seasons in San Diego and that's what kept their shiny new toy in Rivers sitting on the bench, if Brees hadn't had the shoulder injury things could have gone very differently in San Diego and New Orleans. As for good QBs showing flashes, that is very true, the problem is Mike really doesn't flash enough to make up for the 10 or 11 drives a game where he does nothing at all (and I wish I was exaggerating that). When I watch Mike I don't see anything that gives me confidence that he could be the man, as bad as he's been since teams got some tape on him I'm even having trouble viewing him as a solid backup.2 drives a game does not cut it.
The reality is, if we draft another QB next year and he starts all year, he's very likely to not be able to match a lot of Glennon's numbers.
I don't care about him matching his numbers. I care about him making the tough throws with ease, taking chances, not disappearing in the 2nd half, and elevating his play in the 4th quarter so that he actually gives us a chance to win games instead of simply playing not to lose them.
It's never about the first year. It's about next year.
Funny words coming from someone who is putting so much stock in 1st year statistics.

More picks are the result of him taking more chances. Glennon's INT statistics don't impress me at all. When you play scared, you don't have as many turnovers. You also don't make as much of a difference in the outcome of the game either. The Chargers filtered their offense through LaDanian Tomlinson at that time. Brees wasn't asked to carry them very often, but when he was, he rose to the occasion. He had three 300+ yard games that season, all three in close games where he had to throw to keep them in it. They won two of them, and lost the 3rd by a field goal. Glennon has not once shown the ability to be the guy who can win games for us. Not just start games that we wind up winning, but actually WIN the game by playing balls to the wall when you aren't getting a lot of help from the defense or the ground game. You don't have to be a great QB to manage decent stats when your offense rushes for 200+ yards or your defense gets you 4-5 turnovers. Orlovsky could give us that. What has Glennon done that has looked Brees like to you? Even early Brees like? Because I haven't seen it.
Dude, what is wrong with you?Glennon looks nothing like Brees. Your comparing a rookie to an all time pro and future HOFer!Glennon looks comparible to Brees of his rookie year, 2nd and 3rd year. The best indicator of long term success is yds/att. He was at 5.92 in his 3rd YEAR! That's an incredible low number. He actually regressed significantly from his 2nd year to 3rd year. Look at some old tape, Brees was not a playmaker in any respect whatsoever. He played well enough to get 1st round QB drafted and he got traded.I can't talk to you anymore about this, you don't get it. Glennon has not had a good season but few rookies ever do. There are plenty of examples of guys being exactly what Glennon is, a game manager, who is a check down guy (as evidenced by the very low Y/A) that eventually learned the game and developed into a very good QB. If you want to quit on him b/c he can't come close to carrying this garbage team as a rookie, you go right ahead. You also would have been the idiot who got rid of Drew Brees and countless others who failed to impress as rookies.*I quote stats b/c it's the only way we have as fans to compare one guy to another. Most people know stats very often lie but that's all we have. You should be more impressed with Glennon as he's playing with Bobby Rainey, not LT.
First, Brees decline in his second year playing (3rd overall) was due largely in part to injury. Both in college, and when he was healthy, Brees at times showed the ability to be what he is today (or if not exactly what he is today, he showed the ability to be a great NFL QB). Glennon, in 5 years, has never shown that ability. THAT'S the problem. And FWIW, no, I wouldn't have gotten rid of Drew Brees, I actually thought he would end up being better than Vick when that draft happened. And regarding the stats, there are stats to quote that serve for better comparisons, when you're comparing QBs from different times. All the adjusted stats are available.
The guy that replaced Brees is a 4-time Pro Bowler. I'm willing to take my chances on Glennon not being the next Brees if that means we end up landing a Philip Rivers.

Exactly. I would rather draft a QB right now and let them compete. The best case scenario is that Glennon does win the starting job and the rookie can sit and learn the offense. Think if we had drafted Nick Foles in 2011. Most around here were saying Freeman was the franchise QB after 2010 but if we had used a 3rd round pick on Foles we would be sitting pretty right now. I totally agree. Find your QB even if you think you MIGHT already have one. It doesn't hurt to have two really good ones either.
I'm not sure we will be in a spot to draft a QB because non of them will warrant a top 10 pick - not saying none will go top 10 but not sure they will deserve to be picked there. At the same time not sure I want to use one of our scare picks on a sub R1 level QB. I think we'd be better off upgrading the other QB over Olovsky and letting that guy and Glennon fight it out. Having a rookie nonR1 and Glennon on the roster doesn't sound like a good plan.
