Both in college, and when he was healthy, Brees at times showed the ability to be what he is today (or if not exactly what he is today, he showed the ability to be a great NFL QB). Glennon, in 5 years, has never shown that ability. THAT'S the problem.
Watch Glennon's highlight tape and then, with a straight face, say he never throws the ball deep or into a tight space. That is what he did in college. Stood in the pocket and threw the ball on time into tight spaces. He doesn't do that yet in the NFL, but to say he's never done that is just wrong. Those are the things Cosell likes about him the most pre-draft.
Glennon compared to ..... Huh? smh
Glennon compared to ..... Huh? smh
I know...
Notice any similarities? How about lots of short to intermediate throws across the middle? Happy feet on a few of those throws. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_9f9xe_8Xs
Dude, what is wrong with you?Glennon looks nothing like Brees. Your comparing a rookie to an all time pro and future HOFer!Glennon looks comparible to Brees of his rookie year, 2nd and 3rd year. The best indicator of long term success is yds/att. He was at 5.92 in his 3rd YEAR! That's an incredible low number. He actually regressed significantly from his 2nd year to 3rd year. Look at some old tape, Brees was not a playmaker in any respect whatsoever. He played well enough to get 1st round QB drafted and he got traded.I can't talk to you anymore about this, you don't get it. Glennon has not had a good season but few rookies ever do. There are plenty of examples of guys being exactly what Glennon is, a game manager, who is a check down guy (as evidenced by the very low Y/A) that eventually learned the game and developed into a very good QB. If you want to quit on him b/c he can't come close to carrying this garbage team as a rookie, you go right ahead. You also would have been the idiot who got rid of Drew Brees and countless others who failed to impress as rookies.*I quote stats b/c it's the only way we have as fans to compare one guy to another. Most people know stats very often lie but that's all we have. You should be more impressed with Glennon as he's playing with Bobby Rainey, not LT.
The problem is there's no direct correlation between rookie numbers and a progression into veteran numbers. Some rookies put up bad numbers and stay bad, some progress to be average, and some leap to become really good. Some rookies put up average numbers and decline to be bad, some stay average, and some go on the become really good. Other rookies put up good numbers and nose dive to become bad, some moderately decline to be average, and some continue to become really good.
Yes FRG, we really don't know. My point is getting muddied so I'll explain. You can't say Glennon is a franchise QB in the making based on his numbers because numbers don't tell the story. You also cannot say he isn't based on the numbers, as I eluded to with the comparision to a young Drew Brees. Even if we drafted Teddy Bridgewater, the guy I like the most, it's likely he would have similar struggles but is obviously much faster and more able to buy time on the run. With Rookies you look for flashes. We saw those, inconsistent as they may be. We saw him carve up the best defense in the NFL on the road for an entire half and we saw him put two full field drives together against another top 5 in the 49ers.That's flash in my eyes. I can give all the explanation you want for why he shrinks at the end of the game. It won't matter some hate Glennon and can't be neutral about him. He has one distinct disadvantage from the amazing rookie class of last year, speed. When Wilson is unsure of what he sees, and believe it or not, this has happened quite a few times this year, he is able to scramble out of the pocket to buy time and figure it out. Mike does not. Mike is a pocket passer, period, which is something I actually like. But it makes his confusion much more glaring when he is unsure of what he sees, he gets sacked. Unlike Kaep against us who misses the obvious read, but is fast enough to break out of the pocket and still make a throw. Most good teams will adjust and keep the scrambler in the pocket and force them to function from the pocket which is why Kaep and RGIII having had down years so I prefer the pocket guy in the long term. In the short term it adds to him looking bad, outside of him missing reads.
