I just saw that both Chase and Higgins both signed extension with the Bengals combined equaling 276  million over 4 years. which averages 34.5 million per WR.  By comparison Mike and Godwin combined average for this year come out to 23.67 million...Hats off to the front office for keeping our top two together, and to Mike and Chris for their loyalty and putting the team before themselves.

First you compared "average" for four years for the Bengals pair and "this year" for ours. And I'm not sure how you came to that figure of 23.67 mil.  We're still paying Godwin's old contract to the tune of $11 mil void money this year.  You have to count that in. We also don't know the Godwin breakdown, but he has a potential to earn $72 mil over three years, so thats $24 mil per year.  I'm sure they structured it for less money this year, but that means more in future years of course.

Evans is only signed through this year and hits the cap for $25.3 mil this year  Remember last year how we were all relieved that Evans was resigned for two years?  Well don't look now but this is the last year of Evan's contract.  So we don't know what the future holds after that, except for $13 mil of void money. A lot will depend on Evan's performance and what he wants to do as well as the upcoming draft.

And third, I'd hands down take Chase and Higgins over any duo in the league, including Evans and Godwin. It's not a knock on the Bucs duo, but it's just a fact.  You brought up the comparison.

So although I'm glad we have our two veteran receivers, I disagree that we are getting a great deal.  They are great receivers and great Bucs, but that doesn't mean it's a great deal for the Bucs.  They're getting paid as they should, but I'll say it again that I don't think the Godwin contract will end up being great for the Bucs - unless we win the Superbowl and in that case it's a fabulous deal no matter what the fallout is later.

Really would like the Bucs to extend Evans before the year as well, keep tacking on a year

Mike seemed adamant about it heading into the 2023 season unless he is going to take more the Lavonte David approach this time around, waiting each offseason to decide on future?

Evans doesn't want to go anywhere, so there's no good reason not to wait until after the year to see where he's at healthwise by that point.  We already owe $13 mil in void money that will come due after this year, so lets not make things worse.

@catherder first of all I realize that the contract length between the two sets of 1-2 WR's weren't the same which is why I said average...Like you said they likely structured it so less money paid out this year against the cap...as I'm sure Evans if/when he gets his extension(hopefully this offseason) will be the same situation, but wanted to go off current projected numbers...I took the average of the 4 year deals that both Higgins and Chase add 161+115=276 divide by 4(years)which is 69 mil then divide by 2 to come to that 34.5 million average....Since it's a brand new contract, and there wasn't breakdown info available on Godwin's contract yet that i could find. I went by the average number of the 3 year 66 million signed(72 if he hit's both likely and unlikely to be earned bonuses) as the average for this year....As for Godwin and Mike you're right they aren't both under contract beyond this year(currently).  You're also right though i failed to add in the 8 million dead cap Tampa has to cover of Godwins old contract this year.  The 11 million you referenced is actually what is to be paid out over the 26-27 seasons which means this year is just under 8 million dead cap but we can factor that into his average...if we go off the average of the contract 22 million add in the 8 million dead cap, coupled with Evans 25.3 million and divide that by 2, the new number comes out to 27.69 million (with your inflated max value numbers it still only jumps that number up to 28.6) so we're still saving 6 million per WR.  Also don't forget that Godwin passed up an additional 20-30 million to re-sign here(Mike's number would likely be higher on the open market in a weak FA WR market as well, if he wasn't open to team friendly deals).

I'm not denying the talent that Chase and Higgins possess as legit top tier 1-2 combos. I personally would still take Mike and Godwin over them, especially considering that savings against the cap, their production, and their contributions to the community. Godwin's contract could be an issue, but Licht and co. made it where they could effectively get out of it at the end of the 26' season if he doesn't regain his previous form.

Don't take this as me attacking you I've got nothing but respect for you and every Bucs fan on this board, it was just after seeing the news drop last night/early morning I wanted to throw out thanx to the FO and Evans and Godwin themselves.

Not at all. I am in the minority with my opinion that perhaps it's not such a great deal for the Bucs.  I'd say it's 50-50 at best that the Bucs get their money's worth out of the Godwin deal and that he's healthy and playing to the level he has in the past.  But again neither PR or anyone else I have seen agrees with me.  Everybody seems to be on the Godwin bandwagon and thinks we got a great deal.  I hope I'm wrong and they're all right.
