former 49er beat guy now with SI blows up 49ers for taking Evans:

The 49ers are signing Mike Evans to a three-year deal worth up to $60.4 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. That's a lot of money for a 32-year-old wide receiver who caught 30 passes last season.

GRADE:  D

The 49ers need to get younger and faster. Evans helps them accomplish neither of those goals. He'll turn 33 in August, he missed nine games last season and caught just 30 passes for a mere 368 yards.

Here's the good news: 2025 was the first season of Evans' career in which he failed to gain at least 1,000 yards, so he could bounce back. But, here's the bad news: he looked old last season, which is why the Buccaneers let him go.

Now, he'll join the most injured team in the league with the worst training staff in the NFL (as voted on by the players), one of the worst training rooms and a mysterious electrical substation which might be contributing to their injury issues as well. What could go wrong?

mike meant more to us then to other teams. He be struggling to get those 1,000 yards sans 2023 in the last 5 years

im thinking he gets like 800 with 49ers the next 2 years. Rooting for him to put up numbers but can’t say I’m rooting for him to win a superbowl with them

Don't make too much out of the press conference.  Of course he's going to gush over his new team, and its a lovefest right now.  But the Niners are relying on injury prone, aging skill players in Evans, Kittle and McCaffrey.  None of those three may make it through the season.

I think Lynch is aware of that which is why they are going to address that.

Defensively Morris and Eberflus have a bounty of players to work with defensively.

They just signed Greenlaw and he is "depth" with Winters and Warner as the starters.  And they have 2025 3rd round pick Nick Martin as their 4th LB.

Their secondary is pretty much set.  And Keion White is their third edge off the bench which would be the Bucs top edge rusher instantly if he was a Buc.  And they traded for Osa Odighizuwa to line up with Williams, Collins and Bosa. And behind them along with K. White is CJ West their 2025 4th rounder.

49ers will be adding WR and depth but gaining Brian Robinson Jr was a steal for them to backup CMAC.

Evans was just part of the second half of the plan which is to phase out some of the big contracts vets.  Just look at the restructures and you will see

"And in not restructuring Winfield they create a world where they can move on from him next year if he doesn’t meet their expectations. Wirfs already has $25,259,582 of dead money tied up in 2027 – 2029 and it appears they don’t want to add to that total. They have truly set up a world where they can save salary cap space by moving on from any veteran player on the team next year…except newly re-signed tight end Cade Otton."

Bowles the caretaker coach

I agree. It looks like they are setting up a coaching change and rebuild after this season.

Without those playmakers the Niners will be stuck in the mud.  Obviously, they have those playmakers right now.  They can all still play if healthy.  If they don't stay that way they won't be able to move the ball.
