Hope he's ok..I think it was not the most important game we needed so sitting Evans and egbuka would have been fine with me. I don't mind losing this game but I definitely don't want to lose Evans.
but as others have stated, it wasn't Evans nagging hamstring that caused the injury, this was a freak accident
where FireBowles and i are coming from was....the old man just missed 3 games due to injury and you are sending long balls his way? Just treated him like a madden video game player and threw him right back out there.
again, nobody to blame for the injury, just saying, given the play he got hurt on, sure would have been nice if we gone with the typical Mike Evans 10 yard catch in his older years this first game back.

Make up your mind, bud.
5 days ago you were demanding he plays to get his record.
Now, it’s we rushed him back.
Last night, you said Baker threw a hospital ball.
Which is it?

That (a)typical Evans 10 yard catch LAST SEASON was because Godwin was out and there was no Egbuka.
Also, since when do we want the "greatest man to man receiver of all time" turning down the one on one opportunities like the play he got hurt on? Evans himself would probably be pissed if they had him running underneath routes against some back up DB.
If Evans pops back up and we go on to score and win . . you guys are on here saying "hey we won, but take it easy on Evans?" lol

baker indeed threw a ball that landed Evans in the hospital sadly. and while i worded that poorly, i meant more the low percentage throw
yes, i wanted Evans to get the record for sure. Now just hope he is able to return this year.
finally Grizz throws the deep ball to Evans
He had no shortage of going deep so I definitely was not saying that
That’s his role. He makes deep, contested, catches because he is a freakish athlete. I hate that we lost him, and I hate that their defense killed our offense, but I can’t see how Grizz misused Evans.
Agreed.
You can 100% blame Grizz on calling a shitty game (and you’d be correct).
But, you can’t blame him for that injury.
It sucks like hell, but it was just one of those weird injuries.
I disagree only because of two things:
1.) ignore the injury and think about getting your QB in rhythm with easy throws. Evans doesn't need to do crosser per but he could be part of mesh concepts to beat man or hitch routes to beat zone.
2.) I don't mind one deep ball but nothing was short to Evans to get Mayfield and him on the same page. The "short" pass was a 15 yard out. Then it was a fade then it was a streak and I think the 4th was where Evans and Tez collided and it was way overthrown anyway.
So do I put the injury 100% on Grizz? No
But the strategy was a failure and it didn't make any sense given Baker's yips, Evans age/injury, and the chemistry they needed to build early.

I agree with this.
Game plan was awful, especially after the progress he had made as a play caller over the last 3 games was so noticeable.
But, Evans getting hurt wasn't coaching malpractice.
If you want an example of that, just look at last year's Baltimore game.

Watch Evans' head on both of these deep throws

Watch the video. I'm not straight up blaming him for it I'm just pissed that it's a risk/reward choice combined with a god awful game plan.
Lions are a scoring machine. Long sustained drives frustrate them. We couldn't scheme one god damn mesh concept..one god damn screen to counter the blitz. We're just throwing it up to our game time decision player

Definitely get the frustration with play calling, especially early on. BUT the play everyone is discussing ("throwing it up to our game time decision player") was successful and called at the right time, a play action pass on 2nd and 5 (I think). Its a game changer if Evans doesn't get hurt AFTER. They didn't just "throw it up" they TOOK ADVANTAGE.
If Grizz expected zone (seemed that way) and he got MAN then Evans become a key guy . . and he was. He got a 23 yard PI matched up one on one and then this pass, which would've put the Bucs at the 15.
Also, we did run screens, at least one of them very successfully. Tez Johnson's TD is a WR screen.
I am sure the play calling is off, BUT we just lost to a more motivated team and some of that is play calling BUT its really touhg to say its the primary issue when there are so many passes that are OPEN and just flat out missed by Mayfield. And not crazy touhg throws, passes that he has completed all season.
We should beat the Lions if we play them again
We probably would've beaten them this game with a normal offensive performance, let alone a fully healthy offense.
Keep in mind we were playing a game that meant a LOT to the Lions (national tv avoid losing streak) AND we were sill paying with HALF a line (exposed), a back up RB, Evans back but clearly hobbled Egbuka and a bunch of back up WRs

i dont know, i felt that way about the Eagles with the way we stormed back and dominated them in the second half. Eagles look beatable
Lions, i think, other than last year's fluke, have our number. I think back to the 2023 playoff game against them and dont see how it wouldn't be similar type fall short shootout this year
we mention health....but that's no guarantee. Hell, with the way our luck is going this year, it's likely to get worse

Very true and I meant we should be them if we see them later IF we are more healthy. If we just had a healthy Egbuka in that game the outcome is probably different, but yes I get your point no guarantee

Haven't had time to take a deeper dive into this, but man did he hit his head hard on that one he was trying to catch near the OB line.
Did he hit the blue tent after this play?
If we have healthy Geodeke at RT, as well as man coverage beaters at WR - like Mek & JMac (and to a lesser extent, Tez) and Bucky Irving - then I think yes, we can beat the Lions the next time.We should beat the Lions if we play them again

Getting a healthy, stealthy-revenge-seeking, Mike Evans - no question.
That is a lot of if’s, but we haven’t EVER had that offensive combination - we would be dominant and a legit post/season disrupter.
Thats the plan.
Trust the plan.
