yes i think there is always a possibility but I also think a Bowles replacement would be an offensive guy, especially if we were going to try to make a move for a QB.
Monken comes to mind, as one example
that’s the thing. We assume offensive guy because that’s the obvious right answer way to go.
but what else is obvious than we don’t get right as an organization
drafting a kicker in second round
being a poor run team and running on your own 1 against the Eagles
not drafting solid depth in 2021 - instead back up QB and kick returner
not resigning Warren Sapp
Not resigning Mike Evans (jury still out here)
Just some quick ones that come to mind.
its because of that, I don’t know if we will ever become a consistent top team in the league. Feel like we drafted good in 2 of JLs drafts so not exactly a great track record
obvious than we don’t get right as an organization
I am not saying its the right way to go, but if the Glazers do one thing fairly consistently it changing directions, right?
Dungy(defense) > Gruden then Gruden/Allen but no franchise QB . . so in comes Dom/Morris and Freeman . .. the high cNFL redential Arians to replace the low NFL credential coache before, see if he can save Jameis . .so it seems like they would go offense after Boles, but who knows
The Bucs will not be an elite team with Bowles as the HC and Mayfield being the starting QB.
why can the Texans be 6-4 team that looks much better than the Bucs with a first year (HC, OC, DC, QB) and not many skill players or trench players to speak of compared to the Bucs.
The Texans rookie QB is head and shoulders better than the retread QB the Bucs have.why can the Texans be 6-4 team that looks much better than the Bucs with a first year (HC, OC, DC, QB) and not many skill players or trench players to speak of compared to the Bucs.

I mean what an example
They have one of the brightest young defensive coaches and they used the #2 overall pick to grab CJ Stroud . . and they are still only a few games difference and have lost to the Colts and Panthers (I think).
Maybe the problem is overrating the Bucs
The Texans rookie QB is head and shoulders better than the retread QB the Bucs have.
Literally and figuratively.
How about compared versus Brady?
Blasphemous but . . . start with similar teams? If anything last years team was better, maybe? And yet the Brady-led Bucs were 5-5 versus 4-6 now.
Would guess Brady was passing more often, but Mayfield comp % and even his TD/INT ratio is probably comparable to Brady's season stats. Mayfield wins in the rushing yards, although not that big a plus.
The thing that is probably different is that the 2023 Bucs probably sink and swim more with Mayfield's inconsistency. Brady was probably consistently good. Hard to recall him losing a game for the Bucs? Maybe. He definitely won games for us, but so has Mayfield.
$4 million rental versus $25 million GOAT
Not really fair to compare anyone to Brady, so really just pointing out that for all his inconsistency Mayfield is probably over-performing most reasonable pre-season expectations and Brady arguably underperformed (or the team underperformed even worse under Brady than Mayfield, maybe) especially relative to the SB odds jump when he announced his return
Lots of big games ahead though so certainly could chnage and the odds would be that Mayfield would regress
The Bucs have a relatively soft schedule for the rest of the season. But how many of those games do you think the Vegas odds makers would have the Bucs as favorites. I only see 2, both against the Carolina Panthers.
How about compared versus Brady?
Blasphemous but
Two different offenses and two very different QBs but one big similarity
Brady had his second lowest YPC in a long career, down to 6.4 yds per catch.
Mayfield is criticized for checking down and his current YPC is 6.8.
Maybe poor running game , poor line play and not much of an underneath threat (common to both years) plays a part?
The Bucs recent offensive success coincides roughly with the running/screen game improving, maybe?
Bucs were worst running team last year (I think) and second from worst so far this year?
The difference is Brady can carry a team all by himself, so can Mahomes, and Rodgers, and Stafford, and Brees. Tampa Bay has NEVER been able to draft (Steve Young doesnt count) a true franchise QB. In order to be successful year in and year out in the NFL, IMVHO, step one FIND A FRANCHISE QB. Full court press, nothing else matters until you get one. Once you have that, you secure it long term and build around it. Id love for it to be Baker, honestly, I love his intangibles....but you have to be able to be an unstoppable force in the passing game to truly be that franchise guy. Again, I dont think arm talent can be learned, pls prove me wrong.
The PERFECT description of Mayfield:
"Good and bad from Baker Mayfield decides day for Bucs. The always-gutsy, relentless Mayfield once again drove Tampa Bay’s offense on Sunday, and he even overcame an early injury to throw the team back into the game. One sequence in particular — in which Mayfield scrambled for a first down on third-and-8, completed a fourth-down pass to Chris Godwin between two defenders and capped the drive with a touchdown toss to Mike Evans — defined Mayfield’s value to the Bucs in 2023. They wouldn’t have had a chance of competing without him, but his mistakes also cost them. Mayfield threw a very ugly interception (to former Browns teammate Ronnie Harrison), which the Colts turned into a touchdown, and fumbled away possession on the Bucs’ final drive in a one-score game. This is what Tampa Bay will have to accept as its reality, one that grows increasingly frustrating as the losses start to pile up."
That drive and that throw to Godwin, in particular, were great, but some of the other plays completed head scracthers
