Things have started to heat up already ! Falcons dump Asante Samuel, Stephen NicholasPosted by Mike Florio on February 5, 2014, 2:54 PM ESTSamuelGetty ImagesLast week, Falcons G.M. Thomas Dimitroff said that the team would soon start making moves. The moves have started. The Falcons have dumped cornerback Asante Samuel and linebacker Stephen Nicholas. The team announced the moves on Wednesday.Samuel, acquired via trade from the Eagles in 2012, was due to earn a base salary of $3.5 million in 2014, the final year of his contract. A fourth-round pick in 2007, Nicholas was scheduled to earn a base salary of $3 million in 2014.The departure of Samuel, who originally was drafted by the Patriots when new Falcons assistant G.M. Scott Pioli served as V.P. of player personnel, means that in the last year the team has parted ways with three top cornerbacks — Samuel, Dunta Robinson, and Brent Grimes.Samuel, who signed a big-money deal with the Eagles in 2008, instantly becomes an unrestricted free agent. Ditto for Nicholas and any other player with four or more years of service who is released at any time between now and the trade deadline.
Obvious casualties.
I'll take Asante Samuel on the cheap.Only if we could wash off that Falcon stench off of him.
They were the 32nd rank pass D (Football Outsiders) and he was a prominent part. No thanks.
Total overhaul coming in Atlanta minus Ryan/Jones. They realize their wide open window has just about closed.

Also, he can't be like nicks.Getting paid but NOT telling info about a divisional rival.

A 3rd CB that is prone to getting INTs, I'll take that for the right price.

pass on Samuel, aging, declining, was a backup in 2013... always had tackling issue, not a good fit for tampa 2!
Somehow the Falcons just figured out how to make a bad team worse.
Vjax will miss dog-walking Samuels , I'm sure....
Everyone on this board is always bitching about depth, especially at CB, but they don't want Asante? He's quality depth! he can't hang with 1s and 2s, but he can school 3s and 4s.
I'd have taken Asante Samuels a few years ago, but not so much now. Dude is 33 and small. If he was super cheap, he might be decent band-aid at nickel for a year. I think there are many better options though.
Id take peanut over samuels easily. Tillman Imo could be a perfect slot corner for this defense. Samuel has played on the outside his entire career basically and he's lost a step or two. Peanut despite the injury was still playing at a high level.

A shifty slot WR will run Tillman off the field.
