Gene hanging up the microphone
“For 37 seasons, Gene Deckerhoff’s voice has set the scene for the most iconic moments in our franchise’s history, and his signature calls will forever resonate with Buccaneers fans,” Buccaneers co-owner Bryan Glazer said in a press release. “His passion, authenticity, and unmistakable voice created memories that have been cherished and enjoyed by countless generations of Buccaneers fans.
“As he closes out his extraordinary journey, we congratulate Gene on a remarkable broadcasting career and wish him a well-deserved and fulfilling retirement.”
Future ROH?
There was a time when Bucs games were not televised and so the only way to follow was to go or to listen to the radio. Gene was always on the radio and always entertaining. Listening to him call a contested pass would often be something like
"passed deep down the right . . CAUGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . . . dropped . . .intercepted."
Bowles has that effect on people. First Gronk, then Brady, now Gene!
