now this would make more sense for more teams http://nflmocks.com/2014/01/06/2014-nfl-mock-draft-update-bcs-national-championship-edition/
no, passing on Robinson for Watkins makes no sense. People are always way too infatuated with WR's year in and year out (I think if we had a consensus message board pick we'd have drafted a WR every year for the last decade).
Just because people on here fall in love with receivers every year doesn't mean all receivers are bad picks. Some of them are really good.
Some are but they mostly don't change the fates of teams nor really do what people want them to do make an offense better. Look at all the great QBs and tell me about all the big time WRs on NE, NO, GB for example. They have some very productive WRs but that production is a function of a QB who is brilliant. Having a great WR won't make a bad QB good. Look at the top WRs and you see guys on WAS, PIT, HOU, TEN for example and none of those were dynamic passing attacks. Heck, 3 of those 4 teams were bad enough to fire their coaches. Our problem is that we don't even have competent WRs but we do not need to go overboard solving the problem.
At the same time, look at the history of top OT picks over the last several years. I'm not sure there have exactly been a lot of them who have really turned their teams around. I mean, the best cse scenario for drafting an OT is Joe Thomas, and he hasn't been able to keep the Browns from being the Browns.By all means, QB >> all. They really can turn a team around. But with none of them available in this scenario, I'm not sure that WR is *really* any worse than going another position. And to be clear, I say this as someone who, in the given scenario, would unequivocably draft Matthews. Or would draft a DE if I thought a genuinely elite one were available. (At this point, at least, I feel like drafting Ealy there would be a reach.)
I will cry if we left Matthews and Watkins on the board at 7.

see when i posted the second mock draft i stated that if Watkins and Mathews are gone by 7 then trade down to mid-teens and stock pile some picks and draft Ebron. Hopefully in the second round we can land either KB from FSU or Robinson from PSU.. but us drafting a DE thats not named Clowney would be stupid

If we leave Watkins on the board, I swear to God I will punt a newborn baby into the sun.
I think i'd be sick if we skipped on matthews at 7.

i hate to agree with you but only on the part that we shouldn't leave Watkins on the board, the baby you're on your own with that lol
Clowney and Matthews are 1a and 1b for this draft. If either is on the board when its our turn we should be shoving the 6th pick off the stage to turn our pick in.If we draft Matthews we can put him at LT and move Penn to guard where his weight will be less of an issue. With 1 pick we could upgrade 2 positions.
It has to be the highest rated player. Outside of QB, you cannot draft for need. You just can't, too many misses and to hard. You take the best guy you think and role with him. Counting on a rookie for anything is a game of chance and not one that is usually won. Fill your team in best you can and add talented rookies, maybe they'll be at your spot of need.It doesn't much matter for us anyways because we need help on both lines, WR, secondary, TE so chances that our BPA fits one of those spots is pretty good.
Sammich, do you think Penn plays low enough and with enough leverage to play guard? I have my doubts.

I'm sure he could. He doesn't while playing tackle but that is by design. He has the size and power to be a very good guard.

He's actually a really good run blocker for a LT. Not a mauler but when he gets his hands on his target he generally does very well. Any way that we can make the OL better is okay with me. And thinking about this further, he really only needs to be better than Meredith, Larsen, etc. That is nearly guaranteed to happen. Whatever they do, I hope they don't pay a lot of money for a free agent guard. Starting caliber guards can be had in the second round almost every year, or even later. Dominik's biggest failure was his inability to ever draft one whilst spending huge money on old beat up guys (Nicks and Joseph). But at this point, we may be forced into signing at least one guard due to the fact that it has been neglected for so long in the draft.

I can see it panning out that way. I know he is this weeks flavor of the day, but late first wouldn't shock me.
