Greg Hardy and Michael Bennett are the best two options in free agency. Other than that Allen is about the only player who could fit the role but his play has declined already. He would be a one year stop gap.
Jared Allen is spent, and while I couldn't figure out why we let Bennett get away...I'd be just as dubious if Seattle lets him get away...I see Melton more like how we use William Gholston...you summed it up perfectly....Wonder though - maybe bring in Tilman, trade Revis to get access to Clowney...?
Allen finished with 11.5 sacks . Bennett only 8.5 - less than he had last year with us.

I find it humorous that you accuse others of not knowing what they are talking about, then throw out this golden nugget...

You do understand how the Tampa-2 base defense actually works....right? You understand that it is built by creating pressure primarily (if not ONLY) using the front four, freeing up those behind them to focus on specific things...If so, you must know that GMAC is tied to the line and unable to be as effective, because there is no consistent edge rush(?).You also know that many teams are VERY interested in acquiring the most valuable cover corner in the NFL - which our new (again) system - doesn't value as highly? Now, if you need an edge rush, and none are available in FA, and you have a really expensive DB with skills you don't need so much....but suddenly you have an opportunity to land the one position that can free up TWO positions on the d-line...and you think they AREN'T looking at this? It's not a popularity contest.C'mon Man...think before you post.

Good thing Lovie already said Tampa 2 isn't the only defense we'll be running and that he has big plans for using Revis.

Think before you post...sounds like some sage advice you should take.1. I do know how the Tampa 2 works.2. Lovie is not tied to the Tampa 23. Oakland needs a QB4. How long do you think the line is waiting to trade for a $16 million corner?I do want Clowney as it sounds like you do...but I prefer to operate in the realm of possibility instead of hoping for the next-to-impossible scenarios.
Why does it have to be either or? Allen + Clowney = melt faces
I don't think the Bucs trade up at all, we are already short a couple draft picks as it is. A trade down would be a possbility maybe. If they are targeting a TE or a WR.

I think there is as much reality in my conjecture, as yours. For the record - how would you realistically draft a RDE that is expected to go #2 overall, when you have the #7 pick?

This little kitty has a hard time keeping up, apparently.
Well, when the new leader of the Bucs says "big plans" - some think that means on the field. The field isn't the only place Revis could contribute to the "Big Plans" of the franchise.I am perfectly willing to accept that I'm wrong - it would be a quick way to shore up the d-line - more of a priority - while not really leaving us too wide open in the backfield we'll run (IIRC, we gave up a couple of draft picks for him, that was knowing there was no guarantee that he was ever going to be elite again).Besides - it's pure speculation - both ways.Sometimes it's not what you hear, it's what they say, thought smart guys like you would have learned that by now...
I personally don't see the Bucs trading up. The only guy I think they'd trade up for is Manziel and to get from 7 to 2 would require our 1st, 2nd, 4th, and our 2nd next year...at least. That's just by going by the trade value chart and in recent years it's been much more expensive. The Redskins had the 6th pick in the draft (one higher) and traded that along with a 1st round pick in 2013 and 2014...AND a 2nd round pick. There's no way I am willing to trade a future 1st round pick. There's too much of a risk/reward with all the QBs except for Bridgewater.I honestly think the Bucs will sit tight at 7 (unless the Jags/Browns don't take Manziel and he's there at 5...then maybe trade up with the Raiders). You wait and see if Manziel slips to you. If not, you are going to probably be able to pick from Watkins or Barr (unless someone reaches and a Clowney, Matthews, Robinson slip). If you don't want one of those guys, you look to trade down 3-5 spots and draft Ebron or the best player available. The problem with trading down is you can't target one guy because if you do and that guy is taken in front of you...you are SOL. The Bucs only trade down if they have a handful of guys they like and they know for sure one of them will be there. I think more than likely they stick at 7.
Only trade partner we should look into is with the Bills
Personally, I think the Bucs will stand pat.

I think (unfortunately), you may be right, about standing pat.I wouldn't move up for Manziel, call me old fashioned, but his frame, his lifestyle, and his style of play...might just add up to a coach killer.I was interested in Barr as an edge rusher - until I saw he only weighs 235!? That size works for a 3-4 OLB - not a 4-3 RDE. All the other DE's ave good size/speed for a LDE in our defense, or for 3-4 DE's...but after Clowney, none are worth a 1st or 2nd round pick.
Barr ran a 4.47 for scouts during the Spring workouts and he weighs 248 according to what I read. I think he could easily put on an extra 15-20 lbs of muscle on his 6'4 frame and not lose a ton of speed. Simeon Rice was 6'5 253 at Illinois when he came out and by the time he was with the Bucs was up to 268 lbs. Here's a couple comparison pics to kind of see their builds. I know it's not exact...but just an idea. They don't look too far apart from when they both came out of college. If Barr was 235...I'd be worried...but 248 isn't horrific...but he does have to add some muscle if he's going to be a 4-3 rush end.
