Andy Reid also can't figure out or scheme against basic cover 2 and cover 3 principles and he has had 20+ years to figure out.
Sure, bud.
Kind of wild that someone who “can’t figure out or scheme against basic Cover 2 or Cover 3 principles” boast a resume that includes:
- Nearly 300 wins
- .651 winning percentage
- 17 seasons producing Top-10 scoring offenses
- 3 Super Bowl wins, and future 1st ballot Canton inductee.
Wild…
Meanwhile he lost two super bowls to basic cover 2 in recent memory.
Poor Todd Bowles had Logan Hall thrust upon him
When you have to make up a fake argument ("thrust upon him") you've surrendered. The Biggs Special
"Bowles wanted Hall" is demonstrably FALSE. FULL STOP. END OF STORY.
Biggs admits he was wrong about Bowles wanting Hall
Loons are gonna loon.
Andy Reid won ZERO Super Bowls with average WR's and his scheme.
He literally won one a few years ago with Juju and MVS as the team’s leading receivers.
Come on…
JuJu in his prime pre injury isn't the same as was he is now. Patriots would have kept him but he isn't the same after injuries. Lack of WR talent caused Brady to bolt Patriots for Tampa Bay and also killed Mac Jones' career over there in NE.
Regarding Grizz, I don’t like it (your analysis), but I can’t argue with it. You acknowledged the impact injuries played on play calling - but he seems to have had some clunker games with no answers. I think more of those head-scratcher games are due to a lack a line and available WR depth, and no Bucky (who is a real force multiplier in the run-game). Without the depth and Bucky, we’re an average to below average offense. You guys are just talking out your ass.
Reid won 2 super bowls without Hill. He went to another...
The offense has regressed. Part of that is due to injury, yes.
Grizz has also called a few gems but also a few duds... And he's getting absolutely bailed out by Baker's legs and backyard football.
Again as an example, the Eagles game. Both long TDs were scramble drills. That means ZERO CREDIT to Grizz and all credit to Baker improv.
It's the same with Bowles. The injuries and talent OF COURSE matter... But if we are going to anoint Grizz "elite" when he's been middle of the pack, it's going to be met with opposition. Just like if you were to call Bowles an elite play caller on defense... The stats AND eye ball test would say otherwise.
Nobody is truly objective but I'm trying my best to be. I've been hyper critical of Bowles (thus the name) and he deserves a ton of credit for the year. Outside of the Seahawks game I'd say the defense has been well above the curve of expectations and performance.
I was also very critical of Coen... He also had some head scratcher plays but ultimately the good faaaaaaaar outweighed the bad with him and he ALSO dealt with injuries (arguably more).
Grizz also deserves *some* credit for Coen's success but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Grizz has the advantage of continuity that Coen had to CREATE.
And thus far this year Grizz pitched a couple banger games against good defenses. He deserves credit and again we cannot ignore the injuries. Right now he's middle of the plack... He's not "elite".
Andy Reid is elite. Sean McVay is elite. Ben Johnson as a coordinator is elite. Etc
These are coaches that SCHEME players open regardless of the talent.
Reid is the GOAT. He can win with PS rejects.
But that's not fair to compare Reid in his 20+ years vs Grizz in his first... But when you make statements straight out your ass about Reid you have to imagine folks are gonna dunk on you.
It's ok to be a homer but know that it blinds you.
And people have called me a hater, but I don't agree. I try to give equal praise and criticism to all of our coaching.
Bowles is shutting me up and I love it.
Grizz will get better, especially with a bye week and getting people back.
But (last point) it's no surprise that the offense stopped providing when Baker stopped improv scrambling... That is/was such a critical variable to our offense in our most successful games. The last two games (probably due to injury) he's staying in the pocket....and behold, we aren't moving the ball.
