I've come around on Garoppolo. I was reading some Blaine Gabbert comparisons as far as not being bale to handle pressure, and it scared be away for a bit.....but I've watched 6 games and I don't see the Gabbert comparison at all. He simply doesn't get that much pressure so it's hard to say how he deals with it, but the reason he isn't pressured in on him, not his O-line. He makes fast reads and has a really fast delivery. So he usually gets rid of the ball before anyone can get to him.Like I said, his mind is fast. You can see him going through his progressions and it's lighting fast. If there is anything elite about him, it's his delivery. It's Aaron Rodgers like in quickness. He has the arm to make any throw. His accurate is excellent. He's a four year starter that improved every season. He has some mobility. He really seems like a great QB prospect to me. I've moved him up to my #1 2nd round prospect.....but to be honest, I'm not sure he makes it our 2nd round pick. We'll see. Here is a link to six of his games. Every snap.  http://draftbreakdown.com/players/jimmy-garoppolo/

He's my #2 as well...This guy will explode given the chance to hold a clipboard for a year.He won't make it to us at 38.  I hope LnL have a plan for QB and either TB or JP are part of it.

From all I hear about Tedford, he really seems like the perfect fit. I agree though, he probably won't make it to 38.

Unless we're throwing up smokescreens I wouldn't count on us taking one of the top 3 and going for the Garoppolo's, mettenbergers or Murrays of the draft. I believe Tedford said he does see franchise QBs in this draft, just not the ones we're thinking of.

(chuckling...)  "...There are franchise quarterbacks in this year's draft class...  I'll just say this... they may not be who you're thinking of."  Jason Licht - 13 March 2014

My concern about Garoppolo is that when he was at the Senior Bowl, every report I read said Carr was clearly the best QB. It's only one week, but it's an important week against NFL-caliber players, coached by NFL coaches.

Yep.  Every report said Carr was the best there but he isn't as sexy to most here because if one thing: David Carr's career.  It's all about preconceived opinions.

Lol. That is ironic because you are judging everyone's opinion, labeling it, and putting it in a box with your PRECONCEIVED opinion. I can only speak for myself, but I was not very high on either guy two months ago. Now, after watching a lot more games of both guys....Garoppolo has really grown on me and Carr looks more like a bust to me than ever. Has zero to do with any preconceived notions. I didn't watch either guy during the season, so I didn't even have any preconceived ideas about them. Just giving an honest opinion from what I see. Also, having a good week at the Senior Bowl is a good thing, but it is one tiny piece in a much larger puzzle. And let's remember that Garoppolo was only there in the first place because he had looked out of this world at the East West Shrine game so he was a late addition to the Senior Bowl. I'm not trying to make any excuses, but to me it seems like it could be difficult to spend a week with a set of coaches and players you have never met before....and then turn around and immediately go spend a week with an entirely new set of players and coaches that you have never met before. Had to be a tough 3 week span on the Jimmy.

A few months ago you were confident enough about your assessment of Carr to say:

Carr is basically a Glennon clone. I see nothing gained in drafting him. Not worried though. Lovie is a smart man and I don't see him handcuffing himself to Carr.

He showed himself to be a very good athlete at the Combine, which has been one of your big criticisms of Glennon, and has drawn very high praise for his arm, so is it safe to say that you no longer agree with your "Glennon clone" description?

Tweets from his prodayFormer Colts GM Bill Polian just said on ESPN's NFL Insiders that he projects Eastern Illinois QB Jimmy Garoppolo to be a first-round pick.31 of 32 NFL teams spotted at Northwestern Pro Day to watch EIU's Jimmy Garoppolo. JG and Jim Harbaugh warmed up for 45 minutes togetherJim Harbaugh, Bill O'Brien checking out Jimmy Garoppolo's workout http://wp.me/p14QSB-9qop Jim Harbaugh told me on Jimmy Garoppolo: "Quick release, yes, but sometimes too quick. You want to see him go through whole motion." Not sure it its out there but I'm told it was HC Bill O'Brien & QB coach George Godsey who privately worked out Jimmy Garoppolo this morning(Not a tweet)In his 36 throws on Tuesday — 14 of which were scripted, the other 22 coming at the request of scouts — Garoppolo was mostly good. His short and intermediate accuracy was terrific, with every throw on target. But his accuracy waned on a few passes, including a 17-yard comeback route that wasn’t in the Panthers’ playbook. No way he makes it past number 33.

I feel more strongly now about that comparison that I did back then. Carr has athleticism but he has never used it and shows very little functional mobility on game day. In college he runs a spread offense and 70% of his throws are for less than 5 yards. He cannot handle pressure at all. I think he is very much like glennon and personally I would rather stick with Glennon than waste one of our 5 picks on Carr.
