I'm interested to see where this thread goes in opinions by May... Heck even by March. I like the idea of taking him in the 2nd.
I think him and Carr at QB have the most to gain at the Senior Bowl.
Agreed. Guys like me that think they are 4th round prospects could be swayed. The Senior Bowl is big for both of them. Tajh Boyd too.
I doubt they are 4th rounders for much of any team but for Carr it is being solid in the top 10 and Jimmy G into late R1 early R2
It might be that, if Garoppolo does well at the Senior Bowl, interviews, and Combine, that he becomes the guy the Bucs target in the first. If that becomes the case, the Bucs could trade down to the mid to later round of the 1st, pick up some extra picks for the second and third rounds to fill in some holes, and select him.Of course, a lot has to happen for that scenario to unfold, but I like this kid's skill set and potential. And, I do believe he fits in Tedford's system. Stranger things have been known to happen.
I'd rather have Garoppolo than Bortles
I'd rather have a lineman than any of those qbs.

I really don't want Bortles or Garoppolo unless its in the 2nd
JG is really growing on me. His release is lightning quick. Tedford has to like this kid. If he excels at the Senior Bowl he will be climbing everybodys draft board.JDub, its not the kids skills that have held him down on peoples boards, its the lack of competition. He made a big statement yesterday and could be making another one soon.
Is the east west game really a big statement?

No. But it is a start. It earned him ma spot in the Senior Bowl....and he can definitely make a statement there.

The game? Eh. The week of practice plus the game execution? Getting there. Senior Bowl week of practice after the week he just had? Yes.
Kid's release is crazy fast. Like Warner fast.
I've heard people say that he is gonna shoot up into the 1st round by the time all is said and done. I'm not even sure he'll last until our 2nd round pick.
if we want a QB to replace Glennon rather than just a plan B, I don't have a problem with us picking Garroppolo or really any of the others at 7.
His not being rated a 1st rounder isn't unusual for a D 1-AA prospect. Joe Flacco was considered a 2nd rounder at this point of the draft process when he came out, and he's taller and more athletic than Garopollo. I like JG's arm better though, and think he has the potential to be better than Flacco. I still like Carr, but if we were to draft Ebron or Ealy in the 1st, I like this kid a lot at 38th overall.
If the powers that be with the Bucs or any other team think he is a prospect with the upside of being a franchise QB then he is worthy of going 1st round-early 2nd. If he's more of a backup prospect then 5-7 round.

generally speaking you don't draft a QB that high unless you need one and if you need one you are probably drafting in the top 10. So those teams in the 11-32 range might not be looking. Once round two starts we will have 5 teams picking in front of us and several of them probably just drafted one in the first.

This is why if his senior bowl goes well I can see someone moving up into that late R1 to jump over one of the QB hungry teams that might have passed on him. Like you also said, if you think he is a QB answer for a decade you do what you gotta do.
