Nope. Just one of many important factors

You said you wouldn't take Bortles if he had small hands. Meaning doesn't matter what he did if he has small hands.

I said I wouldn't take him in the top 10. I didn't say I wouldn't take him. Tiny hands affect where the risk and reward equal out imo.

Well yeah I mean small hands or not you aren't getting him out of the top 10. That's why I said that. He lacks arm strength. That would be more of a concern to me. Not that his concerns me much anyways.

Well, he does throw some ugly balls which gets him marked with the "weak arm" tag. Personally I don't buy it. I think his arm is good. However, if he ends up having tiny hands then that would explain the ducks he throws sometimes and it would definitely affect my opinion of him. Hand size is important for offensive skill positions and especially quarterbacks. At least that is my opinion. You don't have to agree and maybe I'm completely wrong...but that is my opinion and I feel strongly that I am right.

Sounds good. I feel strongly that you're wrong. To each his own

Look at it this way, they measure from wrist to the tip of your middle finger for this measurement. So a half inch might not seem like much. 9 1/8" vs. 9 5/8" seems like nothing, right? It's just a half inch. But when you measure from the tip of your fingers to the tip of your thumb, which are the two points that actually matter when gripping a football, it's actually twice the difference because the finger and thumb are both 1/2" longer which means there is a full inch more gripping the ball. Did I explain that well or make it more confusing? Point I am trying to make is many QBs have hands that measure under 10". A vast majority in fact. And there is nothing wrong with hands that measure under 10".....the problem is when they get down closer to 9" that it becomes a concern.

Kaepernick has small hands. It's not like I am claiming small hands are a death sentence. I'm just saying that tiny hands is a negative mark and should be factored it. Maybe I give it more importance than it deserves, but it is most definitely a factor is scouting a QB.

Yeah okay that does make sense. I never paid attention to that, but I see your point and see how that would mean something. I just can't drop him out of the top 10 because of it. Like you pointed out before Bridgewater is a small dude. Sure he can put on some pounds, but as of now he is small. Manziel is short and he's a turnover machine waiting to happen IMO. Sure Bortles arm strength isn't great, but he's the safest QB pick.

We've seen Manziel for two years now make all sorts of throws from all sorts of angles with high accuracy. You are a huge Manziel fan. Now after his college career is over and after we've seen all that he's done, you would change your mind and not want him as a top 10 pick if he has tiny hands. Either that's completely ridiculous or I'm missing something. Is there something else that a QB in the NFL does with their hands that they don't do in college? Or is the ball bigger in the NFL than it is in college?

I think the NFL ball is longer than the college ball. I don't know about fatter.

Well the thing is, I already know Manziel has huge hands. When he runs around and throws from all kinds of wierd angles, he is gripping that football like it's a Nerf mini football. There is no way he could do the things he does if he didn't have giant mitts. I'd be willing to bet he his hands will measure over 10". Look bro, I've been saying for years that a player's film should account for most of his draft projection. Watching a kid play is what will tell you if he can play. Period. All this other stuff between the end of Bowl season and the draft, is just not that important in the grand scheme of things. Watching how a kid takes to coaching in the Shrine and Senior Bowl is important, and interviews are very important. The medical is very important...but the combine and most of this stuff really isn't that important. The measurements and combine events are just to make sure there are no huge surprises and shouldn't really make a huge impact. I just think a QB's hand size is one of the more important tidbits from this four month period of craziness. I shouldn't say that I would draft a QB top 10 if he has tiny hands, but it would definitely make me go back and re-evaluate the kid. He'd have to be really special for me to overlook it and spend a high draft pick anyways.

If a guy proves that he can make any throw, what does it matter what his hand size is?  It would only matter if it affected their ability to make a throw or grip the football....the guys we are talking about have proved that they can, so finding out their hand size after the fact means absolutely nothing.

I think Jdouble is really looking at it backwards.  Hand size matters -- potentially.  It matters because of ball security and consistency in velocity for example.  If you see someone with issues in those areas, i.e., the ball is "getting away from him" fairly frequently on throws or he has ball security issues, or those issues come up consistently in bad weather, then you can check hand size and see if there is possibly an issue of a physical limitation rather than mechanics.  But if someone doesn't show a tendency for those issues, then hand size is just another stat that really means jack.  It's something you look at to diagnose a problem rather than something to look at and worry if it's going to cause a problem.I'm pretty sure the college ball is fatter than the NFL ball as well, so you would think you'd see the issues more in college if they exist.

FWIW his hands were big enough to hold triple cheeseburgers.
