My bad bruh..I had been highly critical of McCoy through the first half of this season and the previous few seasons. I would like to eat crow regarding my stance on McCoy. I feel like he really stepped his game up by the completion of this previous season. 9.5 sacks is an impressive number and he is obviously damn near elite, if not already there. Heres hoping McCoy will continue to develop and haunt defenses with improved coaching/better edge rush. I think everyone on this board hopes we get a coaching staff that can develop the young defensive nucleus we have...although offense seems to be the bigger problem....the pieces are there on defense and should not be neglected.
Good for you warren. Not everybody is man enough to eat their crow on McCoy. My little slugger still hasn't been able to muster up the courage.
I don't feel like I need to eat too much crow because he didn't play well like you said until last year. I thought he was soft and going to be injury prone his whole career. For that I will have my fair share of a $hit sandwich though. This guy played like a animal beast this year. Maybe the best dt in the nfl. He is never gonna be Geraldine ever again. He stays healthy and he's gonna be on the road to the hall. I have a good friend that's an eagles fan that told me he was gonna become a beast for years. He reminds me after every bucs game how wrong I was. Jesus gave McCoy super powers! Thank you god!
Here's a stat.... McCoy had 76 QB pressures this year... Most among all DT's. (and to add to that, I think the most in the league was Quinn with 98 or something like that... McCoy was right on the tail of even the "pass rushers"... awesome)I don't think there's a "damn near elite" about it. Gerald McCoy has entered that realm. He is elite.
I thought he got double digit sacks. No?
9.5 sacks
9.5 sacks
Ehhh close. I'm sure some BS roughing call took one away from him some where.
The thing is to anybody who paid attention knew when he was on the field even in his earlier seasons he was pretty good. The thing about the DT position is it's once of the positions on the field where you need a lot of reps to get used to playing it at a high level in the NFL. He was held back by injuries but early on you saw glimpses of how good he can be. If you actually paid attention you shouldn't be surprised a healthy McCoy is as good as he is.
I'm glad you are finally doing this, warren. Honestly, you were getting on my nerves this year with a lot of your posts about McCoy sucking and being terrible. Glad to see you admitting you were wrong.GMC, baby.
I was just going to post something on McCoy..Not only has McCoy come here worked his butt of to grow into exactly the kind of player that we want him to be on the off the field, but he shouldered a lot of criticism and really was put out there as the spokesman for the team at a time when we didn't have much wins or talent on our roster. Not only is he a great player but he has been a heck of a team guy and one hell of a buccaneer. The last four years have been tough, but boy would they have been out right awful without McCoy.
GMC overcame the incompetence of the coaching staff. He played like a hoss.
McCoy is the main reason I hope Lovie can bring Marinelli in with him. Just imagine McCoy in a Lovie Smith defense with Marinelli teaching him the particulars.

Yeah, that would be a pretty epic combo.

McCoy's gonna be good no matter who the coach is. Dear God, he should be an All Pro this season with his coaches asking him to stunt away from the QB far too often.
