yikes . . . let me just leave this right here:
"For McCoy, Bucs fans today pointing fingers at Todd Bowles are “spoiled,” he said.
Those fans don’t realize that the Bucs used to be that loser team finding another way to lose, McCoy said. Yesterday, he said, the Bucs were the winning franchise finding a way to squeak out a tough road win and go home.
That’s what good teams do, per McCoy, and he noted his happiness for guys like Will Gholston, Lavonte David and Mike Evans, who understand what it’s like to work with him within an opposite team culture.
McCoy acknowledged that he really doesn’t know what it’s like to play as the favorite, the perennial playoff team with great expectations.
No, McCoy was not claiming the Bucs played well and are a dangerous Super Bowl contender. It was just a franchise great — and a current fan — feeling compelled to share his take on what’s driving a lot of Bucs fans to extreme frustration this morning."
(slinks off to a safe distance)
I don't disagree that winning on the road against a divisional opponent is tough so a win is always good. But the big picture is that last season and this season is about building for the future. The offense despite having two different coordinators has a path forward for a future with a running game and different passing game via Coen. The Bucs defense on the other hand doesn't have a clear path for the future for the most part which is why people are complaining. Bucs defense still hangs their hat on stopping the run which is a core identity. But the defense used to take pride in matching up on the outside with their DBs with aggression.
The off coverage/quarter coverage play is really undermining the Bucs pass rush and exposing the LBs.
It’s definitely a culture shift, and McCoy did NOT get that. I’d agree with this.
Also liked the PR Podcast today - Queipo actually mentioned that Bowles doesn’t get enough credit for rallying the team last season - and if can pull out a 4-1 the rest of the way this season…he’s doubtful a change is made.
Have to admit, that’s going to be a tough one to pull off as the defense felt much stronger last season. Part of it is personnel/injuries, but also part is not having the personnel to make the scheme work (and can we replace it all in one off-season with limited FA spending)? …but if he does it again, it will be tough for ownership to overlook.
It’s unpopular, but I agree.
I'm going to have to point out the number of times the Bucs found a way to lose this year - against SF and KC and ATL and ATL again. So that's great we found a way to win this one... for a change. But it's a "what might have been" season because we couldn't find a way to win big games in which we had a chance to win. Bowles does deserve credit, along with the team leaders, for the team holding together during the tough times. But he's got a long way to go before anybody can legitimately claim he knows how to find a way to win games
this franchise doesn’t put up with mediocrity Geraldini. The criticism is fair and just.
The culture change came with Arians & Brady, not Bowles.
Gerald McCoy is welcome to think that way... But he was soft as baby shit here both as a leader and player. Talented player and I give him credit for sticking with the Bucs after he left.
But let's get real... Spoiled? Loooooolz. We went damn near 2 decades without a playoff win.
Ridiculous take... All of us have endured plenty.
You don’t have to like Geraldini to respect the take. Players (especially ex/Buccaneer players) know something about a positive culture when they see one.
Giving Bowles credit for last season, as well as holding the team together thus far - doesn’t mean you support Bowles. Whether he can rally the team down the stretch is yet to be seen - but it costs nothing to give credit where it’s due.
Because if he doesn’t win the stretch run, he gets all the credit.

This is kind of the common point of view here. I definitely do not get that, but to each their own.

Holding the team together from his own mistakes? What is this, Stockholm syndrome?

exactly!
with that has come expectations. We have been “spoiled” one might suggest when comparing to 2009 to 2019 Bucs but not when comparing to say the chiefs eagles or ravens
Bowles deserved criticism and his job security is not safe. That said, this team finds a way to make playoffs and he is most certainly the head coach next year

I get GMC's point even if his delivery is a little off.
I get his point because f you've been around the Bucs for a while you've seen this all before.
With the exception of the end of the McKay years the Bucs were long laughing stocks, mostly. When the Glazers buy the team and we start the march to the SB a whole new group of fans come in. TREMENDOUS for the Bucs, but tough from 2003 forward because those fans think of the Bucs as basically 97-02. the expectations are very high even thogh the team itself made a HUGE change (Allen over McKay) and was actually on a downward trajectory
Similar now. Licht pulls all kinds of stuff to win a SB, BUT AT A VERY REAL COST TO THE TEAM.
The Bucs have managed to be competitive while paying off those costs and the long term future of the Bucs is good (with Licht around), but some of that is overshadowed by the misplaced expectations about the team.
The panthers game was TOUGH to watch with high expectations. It was pretty amazing to watch AT THE END, if you think of it as GMC's suggests
No right or wrong way, just different perspectives.
He's just looking at it from the wrong pov because he's the one that came from the losing culture. Performances like that are not going to get it done vs the contenders of the world. I get it any given Sunday but to be pleased with that performance is a disgrace. It's ok and yes good to be pleased with the win. But always be looking to get better and have your eyes on the prize.
