Terrell Suggs' problem is that he is 31 years old, not that he's a defensive lineman.
for $15M per year or $13.5M per year and $40M guaranteed, let him go...he isn't a 12 or 15 sacks guys like Sapp, there is a DT like McCoy nearly every draft...i don't care about the Franchise Tag, i don't care about the Revis deal... Dominik era is over! he's not worth $15M per year... let him test free agency if he think someone is ready to offer $15M per year for a DL with no +10 sacks season...Geno Atkins got $9.5M per year after an All-pro 12.5 sacks season and he play for the Bengals not the Patriots, Broncos or 49ers... and you want to give more than $10/11M to McCoy?do the Patriots, Broncos, 49ers, Seahawks, Saints... pay someone who isn't a QB more than $10/11M per year?a guy like Vince Wilfork got $8M per year in 2010(salary cap in 2011: $120M / cap value per year: 6.66%)!then you should give $10M per year to David when Patrick Willis makes $8M per year, Navorro Bowman $7M, Sean Lee $6M, Daryl Washington $6M?like i said before, you should never pay 10% or more per year of the salary cap for a Top player unless it's a QB!and if you want to build a long term contender, you can't pay 20, 30, 40 or 50% more than what the other team spend for the same player!you know what a perenial contender doesn't make? they don't give 10% or more per year of the salary cap for one player unless it's a Top QB!Dominik mistake with Revis contract doesn't kill our cap because the bucs don't have a franchise QB... but if you make a second mistake don't cry when the Bucs will have no cap room in 2015 or are in cap hell in 2016!$18M per year for 2 WR's, $30M for 3 DB's, $30M for the Oline, $5-6M for K/P, $15M for McCoy and your Jared Allen/Johnson/Orapko at $10M... then what... you cant keep everyone...that's why you don't overpay to win in this league, no matter if it's McCoy, Suh or JJW... if the guy isn't P.Manning, T.Brady, A.Rodgers, D.Brees, you shouldn't spend more than $10/11M per year if you want to win!IT'S A TEAM SPORT!
Actually, for those of us who prefer actual number and not made up ones...Atkins got $10.665 mil a year. McCoy already gets $11 mil a year, so its not like a little bit more is going to cripple us.This little nugget of yours "there is a DT like McCoy nearly every draft..." is just downright laughable. Put the pipe down son. Also, your little rant about not paying anyone but a QB more than $10 mil a year...the best GM in the league has two D players making more than $10mil...but maybe you should let him know how NOT to build a winner since you obviously know.Ravens - Suggs (10.4), Ngata (12.1)
you want to talk about the Ravens? no problemso Ngata and Flacco got $12M & $20M per year deal last year, first year they have to pay big $ for a QB...PRESENT 2014 CAP SPACE: The Ravens presently have 46 players under contract for 2014, amounting to a Salary Cap commitment of $115,940,321. That would put the Ravens at $12,558,889 under the projected Salary Cap (rollover around $1.5/2M), but again, that is with 46 players under contract. Once the Ravens have tendered their Restricted Free Agents (RFAs) and Exclusive Rights Free Agents (ERFAs) that available Cap space will be greatly reduced. In order to create some additional Cap space, the Ravens will likely release a few players who may have outlived their contract numbers.Ravens 2014 UFA's:TE Dennis PittaTE Ed **CENSORED**sonTE Dallas ClarkWR Jacoby JonesLT Eugene MonroeRT Michael OherDT Terrence CodyDL Arthur JonesLB Daryl SmithS James IhedigboS Jeromy MilesCB Corey Grahamsome RFA's:ILB Albert McClellanILB Josh BynesUFA's in 2015Terrell SuggsJameel McClainVonta Leach(some rookie contract in 2014)WR Torrey SmithCB Jimmy SmithQB Tyrod TaylorWR Tandon DossOG Jah ReidOLB Pernell McPheeCB Chykie Brownand it's with Ray Rice, Marshall Yanda and Elvis Dumervil each at $7M per yeargood luck Ozzie!
I fail to see the relevance of your point to the conversation at hand. You stated that you dont win by giving players over $10 million who arent QBs. The fact is the Ravens won just this last year with 2 defensive players being paid more than $10 million. What Ozzie does this off season doesn't change the fact your statement was proved wrong less than 12 months ago.
for every player you sign for $15/16M per year you have to find 3 starters and 4 backups at minimum salary/rookie contract...as much as i like having Revis & McCoy on this team... at 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16 million per year this is not good value!

they didn't have to pay Flacco $20M per year before this year!+ they pay way too much for Flacco... he isn't Brady, Manning or Brees...when you overpay for someone you pay the price at other position... and you better score big in the draft if you want to win!this is a team sport with a salary cap, you need good balance!when you give McCoy $13M you have Clayborn, Bowers, Spence, Gholston, Means, DTN, Gibson, Landri for your Dline... if you give a Big contract you have to pay the price at other position!

See, now youre changing talking points. I never said it was the best strategy, but it can still be done. You said it couldnt but it has. I am less worried about paying McCoy 15 and Revis 16 and more so about paying Davin and Zuttah as much as we do.Btw...Flacco wasnt a 20 million cap hit this year, it was more around 8...so they werent paying him the average.

i talk about average $ per year to simplify... if you want i can say cap value in 2014 for Ngata is $16M, Flacco $14.8M, Terrell Suggs $12.5M, Lardarius Webb $10.5M, Ray Rice $8.75M, Marhsal Yanda $8.45M...but still you can have Ngata & Flacco on your team but if you miss on a pick or two in the draft, lower your playoffs/super bowl expectation!you can sign 11 pro bowlers with big bonus and low cap value in 2014 and 2015 then in 2016 you can be the 2013 Raiders or 2014 Cowboys!sure you can pay McCoy & Revis like a Top QB but you have to score big on the draft or things will start looking more like 2013 on the fields... the draft is like playing the lottery, you dont win every time!the real question are: do you think a top 5 DT or a top 5 CB impact the game or your record as much as a top 5 or top 10 QB?or do you think your a better team with Revis at $16M per year and Banks(rookie) or with a Keenan Lewis/Sean Smith/Grimes at $5.5M per year & Brandon Carr at $10M per year? are you a better team with Spence & McCoy at $15M or a Linval Joseph/Henry Melton(or Randy Starks) combo at $15M?or if i tell you, you can have a Melton/Joseph combo at DT + another 1st round pick or just resign Gerald McCoy at $15M per year?i dont say i want to trade McCoy, i would like to have him back ... but if you tell me it's for QB money, i say it's not smart value... you better trade him if you can sign a good DT for $8M per year!if it's McCoy for $10/11M i say it's a fair deal for everyone...it's all about the real $ value of a player and the impact he has on your records every year... you want to collect pro bowlers or you want to collect victory?i like Revis, he is the best CB in the league but i can tell you it wasn't a good trade...$16M per year, the 13th overall pick and a future 3rd round pick for a 28 year-old CB isn't good value, no matter how good he is or can be!just saying teams that are regularly successful in today’s NFL generally have solid quarterback play, efficient management of the salary cap and they effectively mine collegiate talent in order to replenish their roster. Miss on one and it puts pressure to be even better with the other two.

This we can agree on. Problem is we dont currently have access to a top tier QB. Might as well lock up the talent that we do have while we have them. We cant just save our cap space for that day we finally get a QB worth paying. Whether its Glennon or a pick this year or next...thats a good 3-4 years of cheap QBs. Might as well load up the talent around him. When time comes to pay that kind of QB, we will make cuts in other areas.
I would think Gerald and our GM [whoever it is] should be able to hammer out a new deal fairly easy. He is a great player, and still young, and seems to be able to stay healthy, other than those spring loaded biceps his first 2 seasons. He will command big dollars, but you gotta pay your superstars if you want to keep them around. And we don't have many, so we can't afford to lose him.
There's a lot of people who I would cut before even think about letting McCoy walk.
Mccoy or Revis?BUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!Mccoy without a doubt. CB's are like RBs these days. Easily replaced and little value with the rules favoring offensive players. This isn't Deion's era. Revis's value is so overinflated. Especially if Lovie puts a premium on PASS RUSHING. That is the equalizer and while Ronde is a stud and a HOF'er...he wasn't close to Revis in man coverage skills. $16 mill for a CB is stupid.

I don't see why we couldn't keep both. We shouldn't be spending 14 million a year on guards, 8 million for a mediocre free safety, and 3.5 million for a mediocre punter. I could see Koenen, and maybe Joseph getting cut, with Nicks settling when he retires. That's maybe 17.5 million right there, and I'm pretty sure that takes us close to the cap floor.
You can't keep OVERpaying for guys. Revis is OVERpaid. We all know it. He knows it. He needs to restructure or get gone.

Sure, he is overpaid...why again does he need to restructure?

Agreed. Restructuring involves pushing money into future years, including when he's not even on the team anymore. We don't want that. Just keep paying him what he's making and cut him when we need that money for younger players. The Bucs aren't so flush with young talent they're going to need to anytime soon.
