Desean Jackson is a talent, no doubt. However he is no longer a number 1 receiver. Unfortunately his ego of himself views himself that way. It rubbed me the wrong way back on Hard Knocks with Desean getting all over Jameis about Mike Evans being Jameis' boy, and pressuring for throws. I understand wanting the ball, but that is not the way to do it.
I doubt that is the only time Desean and his ego pressued Winston and Koetter for the spotlight. For the good first half of the season there were so many forced to Desean Jackson plays as the number 1 opition. On some of those Desean was open and Winston blew the throw. On a lot of throws the ball was unecessarily forced to get Desean the ball, and to feed that ego. Whether this is Koetter's fault or Jameis' fault for satisfying Desean's ego, I have no idea. Desean also needs to realize he is not the 1B receiver, but a number 2 receiver, and just play as a number to receiver and get wins.
I would love for Desean's ego to take a back seat and be a solid number 2 receiver. Get those slants and be there when Evans is in uncatchable double coverage, just like Humphries does. Desean has multipe times the talent of Humphries but Desean wants to be the number 1.
Fast forward to last Monday, Desean is out with injury, and there was one clear number 1 receiver, and the offense was back to what it was last year or even better with Desean out of the line up. Production was up, Evans number 1 receiver, Humphries number two receiver in catches (not including RBs), with OJ, Brate, and Godwin with the remainders.
