Hey maybe he could bring in Les Steckel as OC and Wayne Fontes as DC?
All of the Lovie tweets scream "I'm a guy campaigning for a job"...Lovie may be more enamored with the job than the Glazers are with him...The Lovie deal is MEH to me...Wisenhunt or Jay Gruden would be better IMHO...but once again...the Glazers are doing it ASS BACKWARDS...the GM should be in charge of hiring a coach
Unless the next HC is the GM. Not to mention even with a GM picking a HC the owners are still involved. They'd be stupid to sit on the sidelines while some unproven GM slings their cash around.
Name ONE guy who held the HC/GM title and was successful???
Bill Walsh...
he might not have the title but Belichick runs the show in NE. Always have. And it's taken them to 5 Super Bowls.
"Lovie doesn't coach offense , so it's really just a question of getting the right pieces in place on offense and/or the the right coordinator."And giving them the resources they need to succeed, instead of spending them all on defense, which Lovie is prone to doing.

As much as I'm against the hiring (if it happens) that's not even close to true.3rd rounder WR Bernard Berrian#4 overall RB Cedric Benson2nd rounder WR Mark Bradley1st rounder Greg Olsen3rd rounder RB Garrett Wolfe#14 overall OT Chris Williams2nd rounder RB Matt Forte3rd rounder WR Earl Bennett3rd rounder WR Juaquin Iglesias1st rounder OT Gabe Carimi2nd rounder WR Alshon Jeffrey2 first rounders and a 3rd to get QB Jay Cutler2 third rounders for WR Brandon MarshallFA RB Thomas JonesFA OG Ruben BrownFA WR Muhsin MuhammadFA OT John TaitFA OT Fred MillerFA OT Orlando PaceFA WR Roy WilliamsFA RB Marion BarberFA RB Michael BushThat's too much invested in terms of cash & high draft picks to say he used all or even most of the resources on defense. Truth is those pieces that were added simply never produced but they did invest.
You should talk to some Chicago fans. They seem to believe that Lovie wouldn't change until he was forced to, and his record on offensive picks was absymal. He did build a great defense, but he never built a great team. The Devin Hester pick propelled them to the Super Bowl - but he was picked as a wide receiver. They caught lightning in a bottle. It's been said that Lovie will bring Dungy qualities, and that's true. Years of above average, but it will take someone else to take the team to greatness, unless we can hit on a Devin Hester, or better yet a Payton Manning. I don't see anything in his record to indicate that will happen. Like I said, if we take Lovie as HC, we'll need a strong GM to save him from himself. So, from the very beginning an adversarial relationship will be set up. If that's going to be the situation, the GM pick will actually be more important than HC. http://www.drafthistory.com/teams/bears.html
At this point I'll be happy with a few above average years. Lol.On which line do I sign ?
I hate Schiano, ahhhhh he's such a horrible coach! Look at our offense, it's horrible. Let's bring in.......Lovie Smith, a guy with a lengthy history of completely inept offensive football! Yep, this is how ridiculous our fans are. Wanted Schiano gone? Cool. Want him replaced with Lovie Smith? You're a fool.
Lovie doesn't coach offense , so it's really just a question of getting the right pieces in place on offense and/or the the right coordinator.See Tony Dungy as example. History of Inept offense - awesome offense once he got to Indy.I didn't want Lovie either until I found out he comes as a package deal with Tedford. Now I'm cool with it if it happens.
Agreed. We're also Sammy Watkins or Johnny Manziel from having an absolute plethora of offensive weapons.MartinJamesDempsRaineyJacksonWilliamsWrightHell, I think Underwood has two 100 yard receiving games this year. If we draft Watkins, kid would be a legit 4th receiver. We need a diverse offensive scheme which is something Tedford has proven he can do. I hated the Lovie possibility last night but after sleeping on it, I'm on board. Guy brings respect right back to this team and is a players coach without Raheem's tendency to play favorites and alienate others.EDIT: If we draft Watkins, Underwood would make a strong 4th receiver
OP you have it wrong. Gil isn't saying interest on the part of the Bucs is 'no coincidence'. He is saying that Smith taking a year off is 'no coincidence'.

oops . . never let the facts get in the way(note the fallback that followed -- "oh yeah, well I was only wrong because Lovie was forced to take those picks")

I can only speak for myself but I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that I did not disagree with what Schiano was trying to do here. I think a stout defense and a ball control offense is exactly what it will take to beat NO and Atl on a consistent basis. What I didn't like about Schiano was his execution (or lack of). Lovie Smith is what we all hoped Schiano would have been.
I posted the link right there. Review it for yourself. 2004-2012.Offense was ranked better than 23rd one time in nine years. Second worst offense in the NFL over Lovie's time there. Made the playoffs once in his last six years.
Here's a chart of Chicago's offensive stats. It won't copy and paste well. http://www.windycitygridiron.com/2013/1/4/3835940/bears-offense-under-lovie-smith-terrible
The pats are also in a division with the bills, jets and dolphins... so they've usually had their post-season invitation handed to them.
and one of the best QBs of all time

You can pick apart most potential hires. His offense (or lack of) is a concern, but that is why bringing in a Tedford with him as the OC should make a fan feel better. He brings a lot of credibility back to the team if he is hired and should make this defense very good very quick
