If Glennon is so great and incredibly amazing then he can beat out whatever competition is brought in. Whether thats a 1rd pick or a Vet. I'm all for the best of our team, not the best for one individual.

Be serious, if a QB is selected at #7, there isn't any real competition.

I agree with this.  I will also add that if we drop large cheddar on a free agent there will be no competition.

Probably not. The new guy will probably ultimately win the job. But if Glennon is as real as you think, then he'll give us equity in the position to cash in on future picks. Now, is that such a terrible thing?

And that would be a good thing and the more I think about it, the more I am on board with drafting a QB.  Just stating the simple fact, if a QB is taken with the 7th pick, he is the starter.

Yes. Comparing a 4 year starter with Williams healthy, and an offensive line with it's key players healthy and playing surely makes it clear you are not seeing things as they actually are but how you wish them to be; i.e. your bias. I saw a rookie QB who trashed 3 sub-par teams, to the tune of 130+ passer ratings, while having typical rookie struggles with defenses of playoff teams. We played more playoff teams this year than anyone, having one of the toughest strengths of schedule. Your comparisons simply aren't valid. Glennon put up, at times, incredible numbers for a rookie, and struggled, at times, against good defenses as most rookies do. The offense also was not the same. It was dumbed down even more than last year, due to Glennon being a rookie. It also didn't help him that the running game was highly inconsistent. Did you notice that when he had a running game, he not only played well, he played lights out?I hadn't even heard of the guy until I saw him play. I expected nothing from the guy and was impressed by the way he actually played, especially considering the circumstances. With this exact team, during the first 3 games, Freeman played much worse...and he had Williams healthy and better running backs to work with. The fact that the league is also talking about how well this rookie played and only a handful of people in Tampa are saying otherwise, should be your first clue that you may not be right. The reality is, we won't know what this kid can truly do until he has a better set of weapons and a healthy o-line that can protect him and open holes in the running game. Once we have that...then we'll know for sure.

Really? For starters he never had 3 games with 130+ QB ratings.Secondly thrashed? That to me implies that we demolished those teams offensively yet when you look what actually happened in the real world the Bucs needed 847 turnovers by the defense to keep us in the game & squeak out a 3 point win vs the Lions. Also if a QB never goes over 275 yards or 2 TD in any game during the season I think it's safe to say "Thrashed" is a bit of an over statement. Also the whole "we played MORE playoff teams this year than anyone" line is an outright lie, we had 8 games against playoff teams facing 6 different teams and the Falcons faced those same numbers. The only difference is they got the Pack & Skins while we got the Eagles & Lions. They were destroyed by injuries and ended up with a bad record too but they still managed to put up enough offense to rank 14th. Now nobody is expecting Brady or Manning numbers from a rookie on our offense but we had the worst offense in the league by 17 yards a game (along with the worst yards per play).2012 Cards - Skelton, Kolb, Lindley, Hoyer2011 Jags - Gabbert, McCown2010 Panthers - Clausen, Moore, St Pierre2010 Cards - Anderson, Skelton, Hall2009 Bills - Fitzpatrick, Edwards, Brohm2009 Raiders - Russell, Gradkowski, Frye2009 Browns - Quinn, AndersonThose are the only teams from the past 5 years with worse offensive output than our Bucs had in 2013, just look at those QBs named and tell me which ones of those hada QB and it was the lack of talent holding them back. Fact is when the offense is as bad as ours was the QB play is a major part of the reason why. Good QBs drag the team to at least something approaching NFL level play no matter what talent they are surrounded by. Hell that 2009 Bucs team with the garbage on the roster got better results with Leftwich, Johnson & rookie Freeman.

I want to draft Manziel because I think he's a once in a lifetime talent on and off the field that you take if he's there. I look at Bridgewater in a similar way but for different reasons. Otherwise, there are no QBs out there who are worth taking (McCarron maybe in the mid-second or third if we can trade back in).Why do people think he's reached his ceiling? I watch Glennon and think with a little refining and confidence (and I dunno, a weapon or two other than Jackson and Tim Wright who were both constantly double teamed), can be a legitimate starter in this league. He's got an arm that is every bit as good as Josh's, he is more accurate, and he may not have the "it" factor but he tries. Every time we made a big play, he was the first one running down the field to jump on the guy. Again, I'd give up our first and the muscle hamster to get Manziel but it's not because Glennon needs to be replaced, it's because Manziel is that special and talent is talent.

Would you mind explaining that a little more?  One of us is missing something obvious.....

I wouldn't hate on somebody for their opinion of a player, but I will disagree with it.  I really don't think Manziel will translate well into the pros.  I think he is too reckless and will be a turnover machine that gets hurt a lot.

While you've been saying that this whole time, manziel has been balling.

My thinking is, you start Glennon and,  say he doesn't look any good after 4-5 games.  You throw McCarron in there and see how it goes.  They both would get plenty of work in preseason and training camp.

If we are going to give Mike a chance I'd rather give him a "real" chance.  Not bumble fuck the preseason away trying to figure out the plan, like Schiano.  Hopefully we get a coach/staff/management team that can figure shit like who they want to play at QB out during the offseason phase of the league calender.

And what good does having the vet come in do?  If Glennon struggles enough to pull him the season is over anyway.  All you do with a vet is waste time winning pointless games instead of taking a look at someone who might potentially be a replacement.

I'd like a successful old vet for the meeting room and sideline.  Whether we draft another QB or focus on Mike (or both).  There aren't any vets that are likely to be available that I would want to bring in as a number one option.

All i know is i want a new QB next year. Agree or disagree... But as a Buc fan i know what i want to see. Glennon was absolutely horrible in the second half of every game. He is not the future and it would really suck to see our new regime waste another year on him.

Wow JDud makes it sound like he rather have Freeman than Glennon. Well that tells you all you need to know. JDud knows ZERO about football. Have fun with the guy that doesn't care and is always late. JDud reads magazines and articles about college players picks random guys that look cute then talks them up. So if he hits on one of them he can brag about how he told us so.

You don't know if he's the future or not. I still think he should get a shot a winning the starting job with a competent coaching staff.

If Glennon is not the guy and the top 2 QB's are as good as people say they are, they won't be there when we pick at 7. If we do trade up we will have no one to protect him anyway. It will be like a Redskins/Rams situation. Some other team will have our second overall pick next year and we will have a ruinned QB and another head coach.
