Good comments!    Another factor on where a team ranks a guy on their draft board is when a team is already established, they are looking for a specific skill to fit into their team's scheme. A team may have been looking at only one aspect of players' total skillset, already having guys who were just as good at other skills he had. That would lower his value to them. To another team, those other skills may have been lacking on the team, which increases the rookie's rating on their board.

That may affect whether a team drafts a player or not, but in theory should not affect how they evaluate him. Scouts aren't supposed to evaluate players based on team needs. If they think a player is a B+ run defender, they're supposed to think he's a B+ run defender whether the team already has ten B+ run defenders or not. The Packers ranked Aaron Rodgers where they ranked him because that's what kind of player they thought he was. They didn't call him a 4th rounder because they had Brett Favre.

Certainly would make us arm-chair QBs 'jobs' easier if they did draft boards your way consistantly. I shoulda used the 'MIGHT' word in my comment. Anyway, it just seems very likely different teams' scouts are given different agenda (find me a SPEED WR,, a strong-armed QB, or whatever) and give their rating value. Agenda, at last in some cases, could influence rating. Then the coach/GM builds their board based on who is more desirable to their team. Higher-placed players on the board may not be the highest-rated players. That explains comments from GM/coaches about signing guys who are the best FIT over the best pure PLAYERS. Could also explain the Cowboy's media-exposed board...

What a difference a year makes.  Went from potentially being one of the strongest QB classes in years to pretty weak.

Well the best one decided to go back to school

Well, we will see. But I get the feeling we won't draft him, and he'll end up being a star elsewhere. And most of the posts I've read say things about his arm that just aren't true. His mechanics could be tinkered with, but he showed he could become better this past season. He's a smart qb with conviction, which is almost a rarity these days. And I'll take his attitude and arm over superboring two quarters glennon any day. Glennon would end up being more accurate with less ints, but manziel would create more yards (without running) and produce more td's.Football is risk gentlemen. Not a single player or team is immune from it.

You do indeed, but you have to do it at the right time with the right staff in place. Why do Kappernick and Wilson have such success in the NFL currently? Because they were drafted by nearly completed teams. Teams that could handle a rookie QB making mistakes with a coaching staff able to game plan to the strengths of the team. The Jets took a gamble on Sanchez because they could overcome his flaws, We on the other hand took a risk at the wrong time because we blew the team up and handed the coaching job to someone who was not prepared. If we look at the teams at the top of the draft this year you would have to point to Houston as a team able to overcome a rookie QBs limitations. Although Cleveland is seen as a bad team with dubious management they do (did) have a good basis for a team, if Hoyer didn't get injured they win a few more games. They could take a risk on a QB because they have a QB that a rookie can sit behind. If we want to progress we have to pick the right time to get a QB, this year isn't it. Our team has some issues that need to be resolved first, we need pass rush, WR speed, Oline help and a mismatch TE. The QB class this year does not really (imho) have a day 1 ready to start QB in it. On draft day we will see some teams make knee jerk decisions and take a QB and place him in the wrong situation immediately and expect them to succeed. Some of you will say it is a roll of the dice and worth the risk, but in 3-4 years time if the QB has failed because too much was put on his shoulders fans will see him as a bust. Teams win championships, individuals rarely do. It is better to build your team to be able to overcome the limitations of a risk, than to just take the risk and hope for the best.

Yep; timing is EVERYTHING. Jets taking Sanchez made sense AT THE TIME. Now the whole team has declined and is in re-build mode, and it was obvious Sanchez was no longer adequate as their QB, as he couldn't carry the team.

You don't draft a QB just because you need one. Especially if your not at the top of the draft. Let's build this thing up right and then we can put our eggs in one basket.

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Breaking-down-Johnny-Football.html Very interesting analysis of JFF. This particular guy thinks JFF is a combination of Russell Wilson, Drew Brees and Brett Farve. He supposedly has watch 9 game films of JFF. I guess Cosell was right about one thing. How well you think JFF will do in the NFL is in the eye of the beholder. My opinion on this guys opinion is that he doesn't know what he's talking about but time will tell.

He's an ex-Bears scout/personnel guy.

I agree we probably won't draft him but I think he will be just another guy. But I think he will get a lot of press in his career until he's not on a team anymore.

He's Tebow 2.0, except much less mature.

Listen, I'm not trying to invalidate your opinion, but all of the arguments people are making in defense of Manzeil are the same arguments people made for Tebow. He can put on weight, he can improve his footwork, he can learn a different offense than the read option, he can run away from defenders, he's taller than he looks, just take a risk it'll be worth it, any scout who downplays him isn't a good scout, any scout who praises him is much smarter than the rest, he showed he could improve his mechanics, etc.He didn't run a pro-style offense (2WR, 1TE, 2RB), he worked mostly out of the shotgun. Throwing a quick slant pass accurately from under center is MUCH different than doing it from the shotgun in a spread/read-option offense.I just don't think he's going to be successful.

too many ? on the guy.  If we pick someone at 7, I'm convinced that player will be a complete player.  Starting to think it will be Watkins, A tackle or a DE - not necessarily in that order.
