Ohhh wow.. this one has drawn out some of the Hall Of Terrible posters.
True, you showed up after all.
I haven't posted here in nearly two years, but wanted to see what the talk would be like. It's funny that there are still certain members on here that can't admit what a huge mistake it was to get rid of Gruden after Monte sabatoged the end of the 2008 season to be with his son. Gruden won more games with less talent than any coach I have seen. Some of you can't stomach that fact, even after it became clear that Monte was getting a lot of the talent due ton the Glazers. Gee, CJ or Gaines Adams (RIP)? Tough call there. But yeah, it was all Gruden's fault that the Glazers would give Monte more of the call on drafts and wouldn't fork over the money to get some of the players Gruden wanted to bring in here instead of the cheaper old farts he had to accept. The fact we beat Gruden's old tam, staff, and players in the Super Bowl should have been enough for some of you to get a clue on this.
You should also find how the old false narratives have suddenly become fact around here. "Only likes Old QBs" "AARP players"etc...Half the people hating him think Dungy drafted Sapp, Lynch and Brooks.
Your statement would be about as true as saying Allen and Kiffin had any impact on player decisions. Fact is, a guy like Tim Wright would never have sniffed the field under Gruden's tyranny.
I'm thinkin more along the lines of Rickey Dudley, Jerramy Stevens or Ken Dilger
Or Anthony Becht. Terrell Owens and Randy Moss would have taken snaps away from Underwood.
Oh yes, the infamous ones are here. Apparently you guys forgot about all of the draft busts we had during the Dungy era. The smurf receivers. The two defensive linemen we got in the same draft whose names I can't even remember. You also forget that Gruden's SB team had 28 new players, including some key players on both side of the ball. Or the fact that Brooks, Lynch, and Sapp were Sam Wyche guys. You also forget that Allen and Gruden had a deal to get CJ, but were overridden for Monte's pick of Adams. Most of the older players they picked up were due to the cap and the lack of funding from the Glazers. Gruden got the FA's he was allowed to get. There are plenty of insider stories that point out numerous times when Gruden's desired draft picks were not what the Bucs selected. A couple of notable ones turned out to be Pro-Bowlers on other teams. Allen had control of personnel within the confines that the Glazers put on him. It's that whole ManU thing. The simple fact is that Gruden coached a team of 28 of his players, and 3 of Wyche's, to a team record 12-4 season, beat the tar out of the 49ers, then went to Philly and beat them, then went ton the Super Bowl and beat his old staff and players, a team that should have gone to the Super Bowl the year before. But...you're right....he can't coach. And just how many star players did he have on the roster when we went to the playoffs in 2005 and 2007? Exactly. No matter what some of you say, flapping your gums about, Gruden was the best coach this team ever had, but we got him at a price that hurt us for years in the player department. If they wanted a change in the players that were being brought in they should have canned Allen and left Gruden in place. I don't know why you guys hate him so much. Did he punch your mothers in the mouth or something? Did he take your candy?
let gruden go. he doesnt have to heart to coach anymore.
Oh, I agree. It's just the attitude of some that think he ruined the franchise when it was really the top of the franchise that did that. Buying ManU was the worst thing that happened to this franchise.
I wanted Gruden gone at the time, even though I think he and Dungy are the best coaches we've ever had.I didn't want Dungy gone. It turned out to be a good decision, though.
Gruden, dungy, raheem, schiano, doesn't matter...Not until this ownership shows ownership will this team be a contender again. That has to come first.
That is the key problem. While I agreed with letting Dungy go because he didn't seem to understand the need for a more capable offense, the Glazers really lost it after buying ManU and Malcom had his stroke. The boys have been running it fully unchecked since and have often failed to have the Bucs as their number one priority. Shuffling the deck repeatedly will not get this team anywhere, and they have issue understanding where to place blame at times. I hope they are smarter with this next hire. And, assuming they get a good pick-up, they need to back off and let the coach and GM make this team a winner, and give them a few years to do so.

How many times does it have to be said that Malcom never ran anything on the Bucs. Malcom purchased the team and helped with the stadium deal and thats it. The Glazer boys have been running this franchise since 1995.

Don't let the facts get in the way of a Gruden lover's good pipe dream. Daddy bought his boys a new toy in 1995 called the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Oh...so that's the "story" now. OK. So the team acting differently in it's operations right after his stroke is just a conincidence? Malcom, a very private guy, just happened to be THE Glazer on the podium during the trophy ceremony for the Super Bowl, and was always THE Glazer you saw in the owner's box, yet, he didn't do anything with regards to running the Bucs? Really? That's the new excuse now? Please. Huey, Louie, and Dewie may have been running the day to day stuff, but Malcom had the final say until his stroke. He bought the Bucs to be a family venture that he would pass on to his sons, but he was very much in control of the final say. Coming up with yet another lame excuse like this is jutst...well...lame.And ABuccsFan, I don't "love" Gruden. I'm just able to see the situation for what it was and what a number of insider articles pointed out. Gruden had limited control of personnel, Monte was given a lot more say by the 3 stooges, and Allen had ultimate control to the point that the Glazers allowed him; i.e. spending caps, what FA's they could pursue, and overriding certain draft moves in favor of Monte's picks. Gruden went to the playoffs in 2005 and 2007, and should have in 2008, all with rosters that lacked talent in a lot of key areas. Having Gruden coaching this current group probably would have added 5 or 6 wins alone. We used to be competitive every year, save one, under Gruden, despite the limts on talent brought in here. Yet youand others continue to believe he was the problem. Allen and the 3 dunces were the problem...not Gruden.
How can anyone outside OBP really comment on operations?

(they can't)

Malcom had his 1st stroke in 2004. In 2004 the Bucs were in cap hell and then in 2005 the Glazers bought Man U and were cheap with the Bucs for years, it had nothing to do with Malcom. As far as Malcom holding up the trophy, of course he did because he is the "owner" of the team. Why don't you ask yourself who traded for Jon Gruden? It was the Glazer boys. Who is always seen at the owners meetings throughout the year? The Glazer boys. In fact here is an article from 2002:
Dungy had been scheduled to meet Tuesday with McKay and Bryan and Joel Glazer, who oversee daily operations of the team for their father.
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/nfl/bucs/2002-01-14-dungy.htm PR has also confirmed that the Glazer boys have been running this franchise since the beginning.
