I don't feel like going back and looking at tape, but it looks like he's been making the most of his opportunities since Casillas went on injured reserve. He's made some solid solo tackles, has forced some turnovers, and looks good. He could be out of position, or bad in coverage though, and those things don't show up unless you're analyzing the All 22. Can anyone else comment on his play?He's a free agent next year and I think that we should resign him, mainly for his special teams ability.

They pull the SSLB on 3rd downs a lot like most teams, so it's not like he has to stay on the field in obvious passing situations if he's that much of a liability in coverage. Even if he wants like 1.5 million a year I would think about giving it to him. He's a playmaker.

Casillas is definitely better in coverage.
Watson is fine in run support and can put his hand in the dirt, we pull the SAM anyway in passing downs and shift Barron down so its no biggie. hes also an excellent special teams player. we should definitely resign him. hes a glue guy. not gonna be a superstar but hes the kind of guy that you have to have on your squad
Whoever is cheaper to resign at the spot btw casillas and Watson this off-season I'm fine with rolling with. Personally I would resign Watson I still think he's ceiling is better then casillas bec he was so raw coming out of fl st. He can get better in coverage but casillas is pretty solid out there and Damn that dude could light some mfers up. So I'd feel comfortable with either. Casillas is much better in coverage and bigger hitter dekoda is better rushing the passer and playmaking.
Watson has been much better in coverage this year. He was never as bad as Lavonte was last year anyway. Watson outplayed Black in his rookie year and if not for terrible coaching that would utilize his strengths he would already be a household name. Some how Black got a big contract and Watson got relegated to the bench. Casillas I thought was below average. He is back up material. Watson is awesome with very limited reps.

That's what made the Quincy Black signing even more ridiculous. I think they had an eye towards making the cap floor with that signing. Throwing money away.
I believe he is a worthy starter (Watson) so is Casillas for the SAM spot. This is a good problem to have.
