It's a four team competition for McDaniel for OC:  Eagles, Lions, Chargers and Bucs.  Maybe put the  That's some tough competition.   How would you rank them?  They're all pretty decent situations, but I certainly wouldn't put the Bucs at the top of that list, perhaps I'd even put them at the bottom.  And of course there are eight HC openings where a good chunk of them will need OCs.   Don't know who the coaches will be, but just by virtue of them being new hires they will be able to offer more stability than a HC with the hottest hotseat in the league.

Bucs should be #1 on his list because those other HC's are offensive. And he has a clear path to becoming HC here in 1-3 years. I would say Eagles are the worst situation because of Hurts.

The Glazers do have the final say

There you go - and they fucked it up.

Glad you're on board.

Yes, and so did Licht.  I'm not exonerating the Glazers, but you seem to be implying that the Glazers didn't take the advice of Licht.  I'd like to know where you are getting that from.

You inferred that, as I'm not implying that or anything at all. I'm not sure how I can more clearly state that we do not know what Licht's recommendation was. I'm not speculating on what Licht did or did not recommend. You can speculate on Licht all you like. All we know for sure is what the Glazers did, and that was needlessly extend the Head Coach last offseason when he should have been sent packing - regardless of what Licht recommended.

Will be interesting to see how rings change in Buffalo post-McDermott. Allen obviously a special talent but McDermott doesn't make him fumble a ball on a run where he should just be going down etc.

either way more good openings = bad news for Bucs

well yeah Josh Allen clearly a choke artist, but he also masks alot of Buffalos talent deficiency problems being a top 3 QB at any given moment during the season.

McDermott underachieved there particularly with this gimme Superbowl year (no Mahomes, Burrow, or Lamar) and you cant even make it to the championship round

shit McDermott so bad, i could see Glazers wanting him!

Now grant it, Todd Bowles not a great coach and clearly replacing Coen with Grizzard was malpractice; but i would be interested to see if we actually had a qualified OC what the offense does?

We already know the answer to that. We saw it in 2024. We saw it this past season in Jax.

Could’ve been an 11-win team this past season if he were our HC.

Instead, we watched every team in the division get better, while we moved backwards.

And, it’s happening again this offseason.

hell likely 13-4 with Coen

the 11 win was if we had a top 20 head coach this year.  Or...a bottom 10 head coach like we have but a top 15 OC....we had bottom 5 OC combined with a bottom 10 head coach; that's how you go 2-4 during the easy stretch to end the year

likely go 11 wins if Bucs hired just a competent, not great OC. And undoubtedly if we hired a competent, not great DC.   It's a shame we aren't able to make these moves

the Bucs likely don't have a great reputation

From everything I have seen its sort of the opposite

There's a weird disconnect in your comment, if i am reading it correctly.  Glazers should have fired Bowles for Coen, but firing Lovie for his "white" (why?) OC is one reason they have a bad reputation?

Around the league the Bucs and the Glazers (and Licht) are pretty highly-respected as part of a well-run franchise.  I think the Bowles move this off-season is a weird half-measure, but there are probably plenty of coaches who applaud it as loyalty and patience.

no i am suggesting there was no way they fire Bowles for Coen during that time even though it was clearly the right move at the time

everyone knows the offense carried that team in 2024 so the right move was certainly keeping Coen at all cost and not "lifeless" Bowles.  No one around the league respects Bowles as a head coach.

and my point of replacing Bowles (black head coach) who has won 3 division titles in a row for an inexperience white guy, yeah not a great look.  May not be the primary reason but certainly a factor they considered.  (speculation of course) didn't mean to derail the thread for politics and no even Todd Bowles himself buys into the bullshit of race mattering, but yeah the Glazers weren't touching that, particularly after they already did it with Lovie-Dirk

in any event, i think we are in agreement that wasn't realistic to expect Bucs to retain Coen as HC instead of Bowles.  Now....if we had him this year, offense was top 5 and Bowles defense kept us out of playoffs, then yeah, i think pretty clear to move on from Todd, black white or yellow.

The Bucs were in a difficult spot as Todd Bowles said, "he won 3 division titles."

Sean McDermott had won his division five out of the last six years, with an average record of 12.2-4.5.  He was just fired in Buffalo - with no clear replacement.

Sometimes, owners have to make hard decisions. The Glazers fucked it up.

i dont think many would think Glazers should have kept Bowles this January.  Bowles should have been fired, as should have McDermott

i'd suggest probably 95% of Buc Fans thought Bowles should be fired this year.  The other 5% may be family and friends

from a being able to do your own thing perspective - Bucs rank #1.  No way Bowles interferes whereas the other head coaches might want oversight.

from having a QB to work with - Chargers likely rank #1, Bucs may actually be #4 here but likely 3 or 4 at best

from talent on offense perspective - Eagles likely rank #1, Lions up there too.  Bucs maybe #3

The situation where maybe he becomes a head coach of that team in a year is the Bucs and only the Bucs

the situation where maybe he does 1 year here and then gets a head coach job elsewhere, yeah Bucs may actually be 4th best option.

I'm convinced firing Todd Bowles is the only way to unite the left and right in this country

If I'm McDaniels I go the LA because Harbaugh wants to run first. They have Hampton and once they get their line back to full strength it'll be above average.

I hope McDaniels chooses us but I doubt it
