The former Arizona Cardinals OC?

Yeah. His offense lead the league in pass attempts and dead last in rush attempts in 2025.

BIGGS, you might take up lacrosse or something?

lol.  They were 3-14. Tends to make you pass a lot run less

"The Cardinals had one of the best rushing attacks in the NFL under Petzing in 2024. They were seventh in the league in rushing yards and eighth in touchdowns. Injuries hurt the Cardinals’ offense a lot in 2025, but the point is that to the Lions, the run game is everything.

Dan Campbell said that point blank period. Petzing is a run-first guy, and that makes a world of difference in their search.

OR

"For the past three seasons, Petzing has served as the Arizona Cardinals’ offensive coordinator. During that time, the Cardinals ranked 24th (2023), 12th (2024), and 23rd (2025) in points scored. But he did manage to build out a very strong run game in his first two years with the Cardinals. In 2023, the Cardinals ranked fourth in rushing yards. The following year, they ranked seventh. Both years, they ranked second in yards per rush—finishing with 5.0 yards per carry in 2023 and 5.3 in 2024. However, the run game fell apart in 2025—both due to injuries and the team heavily relying on the passing game (first in passing attempts, last in rushing attempts). The Cardinals ranked 31st in rushing yards, but 16th in yards per carry."

maybe Mike didn’t see it as a fit?

CBS suggested just that

"An offensive coordinator candidate with options, including former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel but not just him, may have been turned off by Campbell wanting to maintain his influence over how things are done. Petzing's name had not surfaced anywhere else since his departure from the Cardinals.

Maybe the Petzing hire works out wonderfully, and he's the Lions offensive coordinator for a number of very successful years. Or maybe he was the one candidate who would take the job, with play calling duties as a caveat to understanding the offense will look the way Campbell wants it to, above all else."

If you look back at when Campbell took over play calling from Morton he went to back things like extra offensive lineman and 2 and 3 tight end sets, so BIGGER basically. Run game as a base make sense for Lions because of great talent there, easier on QB etc.  That is the thing Campbell probably likes in Petzing, same style. And that Petzing is probably content to defer to Campbell, sort of a pre-requisite to the job.

One less spot for McDaniel to take! (think it is a real long short that he would come to the Bucs)

albert breer

"Mike McDaniel has made the rounds, and if I had to guess, he’ll probably wind up as an offensive coordinator in the next week or so," Breer wrote. "I’ve heard Tampa Bay could be a good spot for him, and that, if he does a good job, he could be set up to be Todd Bowles’s eventual successor."

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that they will interview Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher for the role on Todd Bowles’ staff this week.

While it would be a lateral move, the Bengals are open to allowing Pitcher to move on because he does not call the plays in Cincinnati. Head coach Zac Taylor handles those duties for the Bengals.

Pitcher has been the coordinator for the last two seasons and has been on the Bengals’ staff since 2016.

It's a four team competition for McDaniel for OC:  Eagles, Lions, Chargers and Bucs.

Lions hire Drew Petzing, in a head-scratcher.

wow. Guess Dan Campbell didn’t dig the McDaniel interview - or maybe Mike didn’t see it as a fit?

The former Arizona Cardinals OC?

Easy enough to see the thought process Morton to Petzig because its returning back to the run as a base (Lions strength and the way that Campbell prefers), but yes that would seem to be McDaniel strength too.

lots of reasons to hire someone over another so who knows?

Lions hire Petzig, does that move Bucs OC job to #2?

Bucs well run organization?  BUWHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Hilarious.  Arians quits on his team and promotes a worthless underling - this Org is a joke around the league.

Tom Brady is long gone and I'm sure he'd tell you how incompetent Jason Licht is...and ownership.  SMDH

You people are absolute jokes.  Losers.  Waiting for another Brady scratch off.  He is the only reason we won anything of import since our first SB.

The glazers are trash and Jason Licht is trash.  You losers "hoping" for another Brady?  You think this franchise is on the way to another Super Bowl?

Losers.  SMDH

It's a shame we aren't able to make these moves

Yeah.

The move was right there to be made, and the Glazers bitched out.

But, hey, look at the bright side. He's a super duper nice guy. And, that's what matters!

Like I posted before Biggs, you troll because you're wrong all the time, always leading with you chin.  Maybe find a new hobby or just quit the insecure trolling? What a truly silly thing - Petzing? - to troll,  Basic football.

1. "Petzing also fits neatly into the Lions’ culture. He comes from Kevin Stefanski’s run-centric system in Cleveland, which aligns with Detroit’s physical identity."

2. "The Cardinals achieved historic rushing numbers while Petzing coached the offense

In his first two years calling plays for Arizona, the Cardinals had two of their best rushing seasons ever, with 2,365 yards in 2023 and 2,451 yards in 2024. Their 5.29 yards per carry in 2024 set a franchise record and ranked 16th all-time in the league. Over those two seasons, the Cardinals were one of only two NFL teams to average at least five yards per carry."

3.For a Detroit team that's looking to reestablish the offensive line and rushing success that's defined the heights of the Campbell era so far, pairing Petzing with Fraley makes sense.  Detroit's rushing offense slipped to 14th in the league (120.1 rushing yards per game) after ranking fifth and sixth in that category in the two seasons prior."

Is the loon still string-posting about this inarguable fact 16 hours later? It's possible that's a new record. I'll get the interns on it.

It’s not that easy. McDaniel is likely taking his time with all the head coaching opportunities still available.

Robert Saleh also just got hired in Tennessee, so that will hurt any chances Bucs had at him.

I honestly don’t think McDaniel is a complete home run hire either. Everyone’s all excited about him being Bowles successor? Why? His tenure in Miami was mediocre. He didn’t appear to be a good leader, always joking trying to be the funny guy. I think he brings a weak mentality and culture.

Some guys are just not head coach material.
